Marvin W. Wichman

Marvin W. Wichman
July 21, 1935 ~ January 15, 2020

Graveside Service: Wednesday, January 22, 2020, 1:30 pm, New Lutheran Cemetery in Norfolk, NE.

Marvin was born on July 21, 1935 in Norfolk, Nebraska to Ruben and Velma (Warnecke) Wichman. Marvin passed away unexpectedly on January 15, 2020.
On September 11, 1941 he enrolled in the Nebraska School for the Deaf in Omaha Nebraska where he attended until his graduation in May 1955. During that time, Marvin was active in Bethlehem Lutheran Church as a member of the Bethlehem Young Society as well as served terms as the Church Secretary and President in his younger years.
He married the woman of his dreams, Dorothy Tate on March 31, 1963. Marvin and Dorothy were married over 50 years and proudly raised 4 daughters. Marvin loved his family and they were always his priority.
Marvin had a short career in farming, but he was most proud of the 25 years that he dedicated as a welder at Douglas & Lomason. After retiring, Marvin and Dorothy moved back to Omaha for a short time where he worked as a houseparent at Nebraska School for the deaf until the school closed.
Marvin and Dorothy decided to take on another adventure by moving to Lincoln in 1997 where they could spend time with their grandchildren. Marvin also took up another hobby of caring for a Koi pond that he loved in his back yard.
Anyone who met Marvin soon found out about his avid interest in sports. Marvin loved all football, basketball and baseball but he fiercely rooted for the Huskers, the Yankees and Green Bay Packers. He loved to debate with his brother Don that the Yankees were far superior than the Royals and was looking forward to possibly seeing a Packers vs Chief Superbowl so he could give his son in law Jim a hard time. In addition to sports, Marvin was always up to date on politics and once introduced to texting kept his girls abreast on events, so they were in the “know”.
Marvin is survived by his adored children; Kathy Mummert, Beverly Dumke (Jim), Janet Harpham and Marva Wichman; revered brother Don Wichman and beloved grandchildren; Joshua Mummert, Nick Dumke (Kassy), Ally Dumke, Sydney Harpham, Ryan Harpham and Hope Harpham. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy, parents Ruben and Velma Wichman and brother Richard Wichman.

Celebration Luncheon to honor Marvin’s life will be held: Saturday, February 1st, 12 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. central, at Omaha Association for the Deaf at 4050 Hillsdale Avenue, Omaha, NE 68107. The family is asking that all attendees wear red, white or black in honor of his favorite huskers.

I loved seeing Marvin come to church every Sunday, and he always came in with a smile. Marvin will be sorely missed, as he loved participating in discussions at church during Bible class and the Sermons. I know that he and Dorothy are walking hand in hand along with Jesus, discussing life’s mysteries. See you soon in Heaven!
