Age 87. Mary died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family after an extended illness. Mary was born in Omaha to Agnes and Daniel J. Monen.

Mary was a visionary and an active volunteer, devoting time to the Junior League and Christ the King school board. She was a 1952 Aksarben princess. A devout Catholic, Mary was a Lady of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem of the Equestrian Order. She was a loving wife and mother of nine. She loved to entertain and travel. She and her husband spent many of their retirement years taking memorable trips with children and grandchildren. Mary also loved the mountains; she and Jerry split their retirement years between Omaha, NE and the Roaring Fork Valley in Colorado.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Joseph Gerald; her siblings: Patricia Ann Dearduff, Daniel J. Monen, Jr., and James P. Monen. She is survived by her husband, Gerald E. Ries; daughters: Cindy Meier (Fred), Nancy Beckwith (Steve), Maureen Ries, Joan Chovanec (Pete), and Patty McKinney (Leo); sons: James Ries (Savita), Gerald Ries (Amelia), and Paul Ries (Deb); 19 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 7th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at the West Center Chapel, followed by VIGIL SERVICE at 6:30pm.  MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL on Monday, Jan. 8th at 10am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 654 So. 86th St.  Interment, Calvary Cemetery.  Memorials to Duchesne Academy, Christ the King Church, or Muscular Dystrophy Association.

    Jerry and family, always have enjoyed seeing you and Mary with the family over many years at Happy Hollow Club. Will be thinking of all of you in the days ahead.

    Ries Family,
    I just want to tell you how sorry I am to hear about Mrs Ries.. She was great woman and I will always have such fond memories of her and all the time I spend with your family as kids. My thoughts and prayers are with you as she gets her well deserved reward. May she rest in peace.
