CARMAN, Mary Alice (Sykora) Jan 4, 1923 Feb 2, 2013 Mary Alice was born in Omaha, Nebraska on January 4, 1923 to her parents Bessie and Frank Sykora. She attended Catholic grade school and Central High School in Omaha. She was married on August 26, 1940 to Jack Carman, and they had four children. During their early years together, Mary Alice worked in the bomber plants, while Jack attended officer training school during the war. She enjoyed sewing clothes and draperies and even upholstering furniture on occasion. In 1962, she began working at Mutual of Omaha, and eventually became a claims auditor until she retired in 1973. They moved to Ginger Cove in Valley, Nebraska in 1977, where they enjoyed the lake and their boat. Mary Alice also was able to continue her love of playing tennis while living at Ginger Cove. They returned to Omaha in 1989 and purchased their home in the Seville neighborhood. She loved her home, and with the help of her son. Bud, acting as her caregiver, she was able to stay living there until the end of her life, which was one of her most adamant wishes. She will be remembered as a very strong and proud woman, a devout Catholic, and a kind and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack W. Carman; parents; brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Jack D. Bud Carman; daughters: Lorelei Schroeder (Jim), Judy Baumler (Wayne), and Barbara Haas-Johnson (David); brothers, Frank and Henry Sykora; sister-in-law, Gloria Sudbeck; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 5, 5pm to 7pm with VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm at the West Center Chapel. SERVICES Wednesday, February 6, 10am, West Center Chapel to St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, 15353 Pacific, for MASS at 10:30am. Interment, Hillcrest Memorial Park. Memorials are suggested to St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
