Mary Alice Wilwerding

Mary Alice Wilwerding
February 28, 1935 – August 2, 2023

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother passed peacefully on August 2, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Mary Waller; brother, Larry; husband, Robert (Bob); and their infant son, Karl.

Born February 28, 1935, in West Point, NE. The family moved to Omaha where she attended St. Bernard’s and graduated from St Mary’s High School.

She met the love of her life, Bob, at a soda fountain while hanging out with her girlfriends. They married in 1955 and remained married until Bob’s passing in 2011. They had a close-knit group of friends and family who shared fun and laughs throughout their life together.

Mary was a devoted wife and mother, a devout Catholic and member of Holy Cross Parish where she volunteered and participated in various church activities.

She spent her adult life caring for others – her children, the children she babysat in her home, her husband and extended family. In later years, Bob and Mary enjoyed traveling the US visiting family and visiting Europe. She loved her garden and plants, growing beautiful tulips and roses.

Mary was also the “hostess with the mostest” for the annual Wilwerding family reunions and Waller-McGonigal family reunions, that she and Bob famously hosted each year at the family cabin in Louisville.

Mary moved from the family’s home in 2019 to Heritage Ridge Assisted Living in Bellevue.

She is survived by her children and their families: Russ, his wife, Ann, their children: Mitch, Keith, Cara, Anna; Pat, his wife, Jodie, his children: Chris, Michela, Kirstin, Jesse and his combined 12 grandchildren; Marcia; Ken, his wife, Dana, their children, Ryan, Sean; many nieces, nephews, friends.
