Mary Ann Zeimen Martin

Mary Ann Zeimen Martin

January 7, 1948 – April 9, 2022

Mary Ann Martin passed away at age 74 on April 9, 2022.  She was raised in Remsen, Iowa where she attended and graduated from St. Mary Catholic School.  After completing her nursing education in Omaha, Nebraska, she spent most of the next nine years working at the University of Iowa Hospitals.  In 1978 she married Tom Martin and they moved to Carbondale, Illinois, where she managed a dialysis unit.  After eleven years there, they moved to Omaha, where they have been ever since.

Mary Ann worked at Nebraska Medicine until retiring in 2013.  Most of her career in nursing was spent working with kidney dialysis patients and in clinical research.  Mary Ann was dedicated to her jobs in nursing, grateful for her interaction with patients and being able to be involved in many fields of medicine.  Her favorite job, however, was as a lifeguard during her high school years.

Mary Ann felt the best part of her life was her family.  She was the love of husband Tom’s life.  He valued the way she took care of the family, always keeping their health in mind.  She had a number of hobbies at different times, her favorites being outdoor activities and traveling.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her father, Alphons Zeimen, and her mother, Rita (Albrecht) Zeimen.  She is survived by her husband, Tom; daughter, Sara Kamp; son, Tom (BJ) and his wife, Kate; three grandchildren: Carter Christiansen, Atticus and Winifred Martin; brother, Dennis Zeimen and his wife, Denise; cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held on Saturday, April 30th at 11am at the West Center Chapel.  The Nebraska Nurse Honor Guard will make a presentation.  To view a live broadcast of the Service, please go to www.heafeyheafey.com and click the “View Live Cast” button on the home page.

Memorials can be directed to Strong Ovarian Cancer Survivors and/or Buffet Cancer Center at Nebraska Medicine.

Tom and family, we are so sorry to lose Mary Ann, a light for our family. She faced her struggle with kindness and dignity, and we will miss her. We love that this celebration of life is for her, and the many memories and people she touched. Her spirit will always be with us.
