Mary Jo Torring

TORRING, Mary Jo, Dec 19, 1934 – Oct 20, 2009, age 74; beloved daughter, sister, mother, wife, and grandmother passed away in Omaha on 20 October 2009. Born December 19, 1934 in Shenandoah, Iowa to Leonard and Mayme Scharp, she attended Atlantic High School and then went on to graduate from Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska. She married Erik H. Torring Jr. on August 21, 1960. Mary Jo started her teaching career in 1960 and continued teaching until her retirement from Millard’s Walt Disney Elementary School in 1995. She was a long time member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Ralston and was an avid reader and bridge player. Other than her family, her most significant passion and noteworthy accomplishment was teaching young children as a kindergarten teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her little brother John. She is survived by her loving husband Erik of Omaha; children Erik and Jennifer of San Antonio; and Todd and Bridgette of Omaha; grandchildren Kristen and Erik Torring of San Antonio, and Matthew and Emily Torring of Omaha; and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends. SERVICES will be held on Saturday, 24 October 2009 at 11:00 am at Messiah Lutheran Church, 5015 S. 80th St, Omaha, NE 68127. VISITATION will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are welcome to Messiah Lutheran Church, 5015 S. 80th St., Omaha, NE 68127 or the American Parkinson Disease Association at www.apdaparkinson.org.
