Mary Joan Kopocis (Lux)
Mary Joan Kopocis (Lux), beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2023, at the age of 95. Born to Clara and Herman (Joe) Lux, she was married to Walter Kopocis (deceased) for over 51 years.
She is survived by her children: Jim, Jean, Ken, and Chuck; 9 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Sister Terese Lux (OSM). Preceded in death by husband, Walter; siblings: Raymond, Dorothy (Alvine), James, and Thomas.
Mary was born near Bellwood, Nebraska, growing up on farms in both Nebraska and Iowa. There she formed memories of the value of family and hard work while enjoying the family pony, Peggy, and their collie, Rex. She also learned to become a wonderful cook, best known for baking delicious cakes, cookies, and pies.
She was a founding member of St. Thomas More Parish, where she was very active in the Ladies Guild. She also was an avid Bridge player in multiple social groups. Her professional career concluded when she retired as the bookstore manager at the College of St. Mary in Omaha.
VISITATION: Thursday, April 13th, 5:30pm, followed by Vigil and Holy Rosary at 7:00pm, at West Center Chapel.
FUNERAL MASS: Friday, April 14th, 10:30am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 48th and Grover Streets.
