Mary K. Swerczek

January 1, 1941 – August 29, 2022

Mary Swerczek passed away Monday, August 29, 2022, at Elk Ridge Assisted Care in Omaha, NE, on hospice care, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Mary Katherine Frahm was born in Manning, IA to John and Alma Frahm on January 1, 1941.  It is a bit of a miracle that Mary entered this world, because her father and mother were of a rather advanced age (for the time) of 51 and 38.  Her three sisters were fully grown when she was born, so she grew up like an only child.  She loved her black cat Nicki, played clarinet, and sang alto in high school.  One of her best memories of her teenage years was spending a summer helping her dad tear down a barn at his farm.

After graduation, Mary moved to Omaha, NE to study at the Nebraska School of Commerce, and worked at Western Electric.  In Omaha she met the love of her life, Don.  Don and Mary were married on August 31, 1963.    They soon started a family and entered the whirlwind of raising three boys.

Mary was an avid sports fan and loved going to Husker football games and baseball games at the College World Series.  She also loved to travel and spoil her grandchildren.  She was a perfectionist with an attention to detail.  This may have caused Don occasional heartburn whenever she pointed out that he had missed a belt loop.  But this same drive produced a neat, warm home, very thoughtful gifts, and beautiful, delicious dinners on the holidays.

Mary was dutiful to her Christian faith and strived to impart that faith to her boys.  She had a sincere interest in others.  Her devotion to family and friends reflected God’s love for us all. Mary is survived by her loving and devoted husband of nearly 59 years, Don, Omaha; children Mike (Paula) Omaha, Brad (Danielle) Omaha; grandchildren, Nick (Isabelle), Alex, Grace, Ian, Andrew, and Piper; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alma Frahm; son David (Katie); and sisters Helen, Laverne, and Marian.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Heafey Hoffman Dworak Cutler at 7805 W. Center Rd Omaha.  Mass of Cristian Burial will be Friday, September 2, 2022, at 10:30 AM, St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Omaha.  Internment will take place after lunch in Resurrection Cemetery in Omaha.

We are so sorry to hear of Mary’s passing, it is never easy to have to go through letting go of a family member that is so dear to all of you.

Mary had such a big heart and always remembered her Bjorndahl family in California and each time Don and she visited Aunt Marian and we would have lunch to catch up on our families. I always loved the stories that Aunt Marian would tell me of the sisters, Helen, Laverne and Mary and she when they lived in Omaha and how Mary was the youngest and she was the only sister left with their dad and Alma when they came to California.

Don and family I want you to know that Mary and her sisters are once again together and laughing and looking down on everyone and will help all of you through your grief and Mary will always be with you forever.

Love, Mary Ann, Jonathan and Ann
