MONAHAN, Mary Kay (Egan) Apr 24, 1938 Nov 25, 2011. Passed away Friday at her home surrounded by: her husband of 51 years, James H. Monahan, her daughters, and grandson. Mary Kay grew up on Fontenelle Boulevard in Omaha and graduated from Holy Name Elementary and Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart. She earned her Teaching Degree from Creighton University and taught at Hillside Elementary in the early 1960s. She married Jim Monahan in 1960. She became an advocate for special needs children as her son Danny was severely disabled. She loved to cook and had a wry sense of humor. An avid Bluejay fan, she only missed a handful of Creighton home basketball games in 50 years. Mary Kay was preceded in death by her son, Danny; parents, Tom and Mary Egan; and brothers, Tom Egan, and Fr. John Egan, S.J. She is survived by her husband; daughters, Kathy Monahan and Maureen Monahan; and her beloved grandson Sean Monahan, all of Omaha. The family will receive friends Monday, 5pm to 7pm with VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm at the West Center Chapel. SERVICES Tuesday, 9:30am, West Center Chapel to St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church for MASS at 10am. Interment, Calvary. Memorials are suggested to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
