Mary was born on April 5, 1916, in St. John Township, Iowa and died at the age of 103 on May 15, 2019, in Bellevue, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Loredda Adams; husband Virgil Erixon; six siblings; countless nieces and nephews; her family at Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home; and special friends: Linda Burke, Becky Gaffney, and Lois Tobias.
Mary grew up in Iowa and was raised by her father and older sisters after losing her mother at a young age. Mary became a licensed cosmetologist and was a hair stylist for many years in downtown Omaha. She met her future husband, Virgil, after her sister convinced her to correspond with him while he served in WWII. They were married in Missouri Valley, Iowa on February 15, 1947.
Mary was an artist specializing in oils and watercolors, a member of St. James Catholic Church and The Legion of Mary for years, and a resident at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home for the past 15 years. She loved to paint, tell stories, fish, travel to other countries, say the Rosary, do Adoration, attend WWI Reunions with Virgil, make crafts and handmade gifts for others, place bets and play cards, reminisce about good friends and family, and spend her time with Virgil.
