Mary Louise Mitchell 

September 3, 1928 to March 11, 2024

Preceded in death by her parents Richard and Annabelle Estes, her husband Homer “Mitch” Mitchell, her son Hal Mitchell and her sister Eleanor Potach.

She is survived by daughter Janet Novak and husband Bill. Grandchildren Kevin Novak and wife Nicole, Carrie Kountze and husband Michael, Nick Novak and Kelli Maiwald with husband Heath. She is also survived by Hal’s children Serena and Mathew along with 6 great-grandchildren. Mary is also survived by brother Richard “Dick” Estes of Nevada and niece and nephews.

Mary was born in Malvern Iowa. She entered into rest in Omaha on March 11, 2024 surrounded by family and love. Mary was an educator for over 24 years and retired at the age of 64 to spend more time with her grandchildren. She was involved in many activities and clubs including piano / soloist at church , enjoyed ceramics, art, and canvas painting. She also loved ballroom dancing. She enjoyed attending many of her grandchildren’s activities. Some of her clubs were the Lunch Bunch, Beta Sigma Phi and a gourmet cooking group. She loved animals and feeding the squirrels, rabbits and birds in the neighborhood.

Visitation: Monday, March 18th at 5:00PM at West Center Chapel with a Memorial Service at 6:00PM

Private Interment : Evergreen Cemetery

    My deepest condolences to you, Janet and all the family. She was such a beautiful lady and you took after her a 100%.

    Mrs. Mitchell was the Kindergarten teacher for all 3 of our children. She was the absolute best. Our prayers to the family.

    Janet and family. My heart goes out to all of you. Mary was a very special person. I enjoyed our time teaching together at G. Stanley Hall. .

    My sympathies to Janet and her family. I was in AAUW with Mary for several years and we always enjoyed making and serving the lunches for our Gourmet Club. She was a lovely talented lady and will be missed!

    My prayers and sympathy to all Mary’s family,especially Janet, her daughter. We had a lot of fun working together in AAUW club, especially doing the Gourmet Club together.
