Mary M. “Marcy” Kleber
March 27, 1946 – August 3, 2020
Mary Marcella Kleber was born on March 27, 1946 to Joseph and Clara Thiel. Marcy, as she was known to family and friends, was the 12th of 14 children. Growing up on a farm in Mapleton, Iowa, she was fondly known as the blonde beauty of the family, as noted in Collier’s magazine which featured the family’s challenges with polio.
Marcy moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she lived the remainder of her life. She spent most of her career working for the phone company, where she managed teams of people in various cities and gave her opportunities for travel. It was here she made many of her life-long friends.
Family was important to Marcy. She enjoyed spoiling her many nieces and nephews, who to this day tell of the tales of Aunt Marcy. Marcy married Rich Kleber on October 9, 1978 and as best friends built a life together. William “Bill” was born to them on June 25, 1980 and completed their family. Marcy and Bill shared a love of hockey, the Chicago Cubs, and Diet Coke. She was excited to welcome Bill’s wife, Danielle, to the family and not only gained a daughter-in-law, but a true friend. Most importantly, Marcy taught Bill the importance of family and making memories.
The greatest joys of her life began when Ruby Grace, her only grandchild, was born. Ruby and “Amma” as she was called by Ruby, were like two peas in a pod. Their “whispers” in church, enjoying the hot stones of pedicures together, card games, and constant laughs were just a few of their memories made together.
Marcy battled many health problems, but always persevered. Her strong Catholic faith served her well throughout her life.
For those who wish to not travel or gather in groups, the family wishes for everyone to know it is okay. Love and support can be offered in many other ways.
She is preceded in death by husband, Richard J. Kleber; brothers: Don Thiel, Bob Thiel, Smiley Thiel, Jerry Thiel, and Larry Thiel; sister, Joan Smith; and in-laws: Helen Thiel, Tootie Thiel, Cindy Thiel, Bob Johnson, Marge Thiel, and Rich Smith. Survived by son, William Kleber (Danielle); one granddaughter, Ruby Kleber; siblings: Thomas Thiel, Arlene Johnson, Cathy Wessling (Jerry), Ina Feller (Chuck), Fritz Thiel (Libby), Harry Thiel, Jean Dahl (Doug) and Butch Thiel (Ann); and sister-in-law, Beverly Thiel.
