VALDEZ, Mary Yzaguirre, Sep 20, 1925 Apr 21, 2012. Mother to Rebecca Valdez, Nebraska State Board of Education, District 4. Mary Y. Valdez, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, is now draped in the hands of the Lord. After a brief illness, she passed surrounded by family. She was 86. Devout in her convictions and steadfast in her faith, Mary was unique and deep in character, loved by many, and will be missed by all who knew her. The eldest daughter in her family, she was a longtime native and belonged to a pioneer family in Brownsville, TX. To her credit, Mary was instrumental in the beginnings of St. Joseph Catholic Church and remained a member until her passing. Mary and her husband were active in the community for several years through the West Brownsville Lions Club. Mary relocated to Omaha in 2008 to work on her daughters bid for election to the Nebraska State Board of Education representing District 4. She was preceded in death by her husband, Juan Valdez; parents, Guadalupe and Albina Yzaguirre; brothers, Antonio and Lupe Yzaguirre. She is survived by her daughter Rebecca and son John Robert, both of Omaha; sisters, Gloria and Eva Yzaguirre of Brownsville, TX; grandson, John Tyler Valdez (John and Diane) of Austin, TX; and a long list of nieces and nephews. After a PRIVATE CEREMONY she remains with family in Omaha, Nebraska.
