Mathilda M. “Tillie” (Spenner) Zikmund

March 9, 1924 – April 19, 2023

Mathilda Margaret Spenner was born at home in West Point, Nebraska.  Mathilda spent many years as a housekeeper for her brother, Rev. Ignatius Spenner.  She married Dr. Elno Thomas Zikmund on February 8, 1964, in Omaha.  After a honeymoon in Hawaii, Mathilda and Elno returned to Central City, Nebraska, where Elno resumed his medical practice.  Mathilda became a stepmother, manager of the household and finances, and Elno’s assistant.  After retirement in 1985, the Zikmunds moved to Omaha, Nebraska.  Much time was spent doing the things most people promise themselves while too busy working and raising a family.  The Zikmunds enjoyed traveling.  Mathilda loved to ski and was a terrific cook.  She also loved stitchery and produced majestic needlepoints.

Tillie was preceded in death by her husband, Elno T. Zikmund, M.D.; stepsons, Dale Zikmund and Shane Zikmund; two stepsisters, Theresa and Mary Gentrup; her Spenner siblings: Theresa, Mary, Joe, Henry, Fr. Ignatius, Catherine, Anna, Agnes (Sr. Leovigild), Elizabeth (Sr. Johnitta), Helen (Sr. Marie Paula), Ferdinand, Barbara (Sr. Ann), Fr. Conrad, Mathilda, Paul, Dorothy, Bernard, and Frances.

Tillie is survived by stepchildren, David T. Zikmund (Judy) and Stephen L. Zikmund; grandchildren: Brett Zikmund (Leah), Corey Zikmund (Alison Downs), and Danelle Weeder (Dr. Gregg); , great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

David and Stephen, We have so many fond memories of you and the whole Zikmund family. You can be proud of each one of the Zikmund’s that have gone before us. Your brothers, your mom, and uncle Tommy and Tillie, all have left something to be proud of and you carry on that chain. You all have a special purpose to your lives. You are all links in that chain , living for reasons only you can fill. We are proud to call you family. Maureen Cooney
