MATYA, Clarence J.

Clarence J. Matya June 14, 1922 – July 15, 2015 Omaha. Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Clarence was born in Cedar Rapids, NE and grew up on a farm near there. While in high school, his family moved to Omaha and he graduated from Central High School. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Clarence lived an incredible life and will be remembered as Senor Matias, the restaurant he operated for 32 years. He was proud and grateful for his entire family of six daughters, eighteen grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Helen; parents, Joseph and Dora (Zulkoski) Matya; sisters: Dee Moran, Irene Kozol, Phyllis Pielsticker, and Lucille Taylor; son-in-law Jim Strobel; and great-grandchildren, Iva and Mark Thompson. He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Pam and Ed Stanek, Cheryl and Bob Foral, Andrea and Gage Hazen, Karen Strobel, Dianne and John Scott, and Deb and Mark Munro; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: EJ Stanek and wife Krista, Zack and Ashley; Julie Smith and husband Kirby, Kylie and Branden Steel, Courtney, and Sidney and Mike Williams; Greg Stanek and wife Julie, Hannah; Mark Stanek and wife Amy, Olivia, Isabel, Gillian, Ava and Henry; Becky Carrico and husband Scott, Macey and Whitney; Amy Marshall, David and Madilyn; Rob Foral and wife Shelby, RJ, Haley and Harrison; Scott Foral and wife Mindy, Maya and Hudson; Nick Foral and wife Kelly, Mirabella, Delainey and Joey; Matt Hazen, Jackson, Ella and Reid; Jeff Hazen and wife Angie, Colson and Luke; Sara Thompson and husband Josh, Hank and Wyatt; Allison Strobel; Elizabeth Scott and husband James Houston, Edie; Melissa Scott and Adam Hein, Otis; JD Scott and wife Chrissie, Alaina and John; Chris Munro and wife Lindsey, Claire, Ethan and Lauren; Jessica Munro and Cody Brown; sister, Dorlene Marode; many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Clarence’s life will be held with MASS on Monday, July 20th at 10am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 654 S. 86 St. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 19th from 1:30pm to 3pm at Christ the King Catholic Church, with VIGIL SERVICE at 3pm at the church. Entombment at Resurrection Mausoleum with military honors by Benson VFW Post 2503. Memorials are suggested to Heartland Family Service or Christ the King Church.
