Merrill E. Gardner

Merrill E. Gardner, age 90, of Logan, Iowa passed away Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley after a long battle with kidney failure. Merrill was born May 23, 1926 in Neola, Iowa to Charlie and Lillian (Ellswick) Gardner. He graduated from the Beebeetown High School. After his schooling her served in the Army during WWII. He owned and operated the John Deere Implement business in Mondamin and Missouri Valley for forty years. He farmed for several years following in the Logan and Woodbine areas. Merrill’s great joy was farming. Survivors include his children: Marilyn Gardner of Logan, Iowa; Mike Gardner and wife Deb; Cindy Snyder; Chris Patzner and husband Terry all of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Merrill was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley with Pastor Connie McWilliams officiating. Music selections will be “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”. Immediately following the service, the family invites everyone to a time of lunch and fellowship at the Methodist Church in Missouri Valley. Inurnment will be held later in the Grange Cemetery, Honey Creek, Iowa for immediate family only. A Flag presentation will be conducted by the Julius F. Muller American Legion Post #447 of Missouri Valley. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
