Michael J. Mertz

MERTZ-Michael J. “Mike”, 65 yrs. Omaha. Mike was an avid hunter and trapshooter and was a contributory member of the Nebraska Trapshooting Hall of Fame. He and his wife, Jean, worked on the renovation of the Nebraska Trapshooting Association facility in Doniphan, NE. He taught and coached at North High School from 1966-1970, and was a part-time baseball scout. He was employed most of his career in the insurance industry, retiring in 1998. After retirement he and his wife traveled across the West and Southwest in their RV, returning to Omaha in 2007. He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey A. Mertz. He is survived by his wife, Jean; mother, Lillian Mertz of Omaha; 4 sisters, Faith Mertz Sheridan of Seattle, WA and her daughter, Keegan Sheridan of Los Angeles, CA, Jean Mertz Bradley of Omaha and her sons, Dan Bradley of Omaha and Chris Bradley of Kansas City, MO, Jo Ellen Mertz Thelen and husband Michael of St. Louis, MO, Carolyn Mertz Thacker and husband Mark and their son, Luke, of San Antonio, TX; brother, Paul Mertz of Portland, OR; stepdaughter, Jennifer Mikulecky of Omaha; stepgrandchildren, Christian Mikulecky of Omaha, Mason Mower of Council Bluffs, IA. SERVICES Thursday, 11am West Center Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Omaha Food Bank or 7 Oaks of Florence.
