Michael J. Rezac

March 27, 1949 – February 24, 2024

Mike Rezac was the 4th son to John and Alice (Slama) Rezac in March of 1949.  He grew up in the Little Bohemia area and was a full blooded Czech enjoying poppyseed kolaches, Ferds rye bread, Pork, sauerkraut and dumplings.  He graduated South High in 1967 and during that time met his soul mate Deborah Jane Haftings (Debb).  They married in June 1968.  It didn’t take long before they expanding their family with daughter Micki and son Joe in 1969 and 1970.

Mike worked at Tip Top as a machinist.  He proceeded with that line of work and ran the machine shop at UNO in the Dept of Engineering for many years before retiring.  He liked to tinker and could fix or repair just about anything.

He was an avid stock car driver and participated in many races at Playland Speedway in Council Bluffs, a popular race track back in the day.

He enjoyed the outdoors and visited so many places during his lifetime.  Favorites included every part of Colorado especially Rocky Mountain National Park.  Another favorite was Western South Dakota, Custer State Park, Badlands, and the Mount Rushmore area. Other highlights were Niagra Falls and Houseboating on the US Canadian border.   Vacations occurred once or twice a summer for a good part o his life.  His travels were many and begin with his family when he was young, then his wife and kids, and ultimately his wife and dogs.

He loved animals and had many fur and feathered friends throughout his life.

Dogs – Rusty, Boots, Archie, Susie, Hershey, Holly, Halle, Pepper, Scout, Corky, Ariel and Hachi.

Parrots – Andy, Amos, Red, and Petey and a plethora of many other birds.

Other titles he held were YMCA basketball and soccer coach and Cub Scout softball coach to name a few.

He was a loving husband and father and will be remembered and cherished.

Survived by wife, Deborah; daughter, Michelle Rezac; son, Joseph Rezac; canine kids, Ariel and Hachi.

VISITATION: Tuesday, February 27th from 5pm to 6pm at the West Center Chapel, followed by CELEBRATION OF LIFE at 6pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Nebraska Humane Society.

    I am so sorry for your loss. Uncle Mike was a wonderful person. I’ll miss him.
