Michael J. Rose
November 9, 1941 – April 10, 2024
Michael J. Rose passed away on April 10, 2024, in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 82. He was born in New Canada, Minnesota, and spent his early life in North Dakota and northern Minnesota. Minnesota was never far from his heart as he often returned to “God’s Country” to visit family. He hitchhiked to Omaha in 1959 to attend Creighton University, and made his home in Omaha, Nebraska, after graduation.
Mike was a man who wore many hats, but the most famous was his well-worn brown Stetson, followed by the Marine Corps baseball cap that he wore until the end. He was an avid duplicate bridge player, dog lover, and proud member of the United States Marine Corps.
Mike was married to Carole for 58 years. They raised three sons: Kenny, Kevin (Carrie), and George Achola (Melissa). These three sons blessed us with nine grandchildren, who were Grandpa Mike’s pride and joy. He also had many steadfast canine companions, including Cookie, his Brittany Spaniel who loyally accompanied him until the end.
Mike had an uncanny ability to recite a variety of lengthy poems and always made time to show up to all of his grandkid’s activities with Cookie in tow.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Stephen; mother, Ellen; siblings: Francis, George, Anne Sadusky, Paul, and Greg. Mike is survived by his wife, Carole; children: Kenny, Kevin, and George; 9 grandchildren; siblings: Dan, Tom, Judy, Bill, Mary, Dave, and Ted.
A Visitation will be held at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 6116 Dodge St, Omaha, NE 68132, on Tuesday, April 16th, at 9:30 AM, followed by a MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
