Michael Joseph Van Long

Michael “Mike” Joseph Van Long, 71, passed away on January 10, 2022. Mike was born on April 6, 1950, in Omaha, Nebraska. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Della Van Long, sister Judy Whitehill and brother-in-law Calvin Whitehill. He is survived by his wife Janice and they were blessed with two sons: Brian and Stephanie Van Long with grandchildren Alayna and Jace of Lenexa, Kansas, Christopher Van Long with grandchildren Alexia and Emily of Ashland, Nebraska. He is also survived by his Aunt Betty and Leonard Bunach along with cousins and in-laws.
Mike graduated from Omaha South High School in 1968. He met Jan at the age of 15 while playing drums with the Silver Streaks Band and they were married in 1970. Mike was a dedicated employee at Builder’s Supply Company in Omaha for 55 years.
Mike was a passionate man who cared deeply for his family with humility and humor. Mike was a devoted husband, a resounding rock and mentor for his children, and a favorite of his grandchildren and granddogs. He was a genuine friend to those who knew him well. Mike and Jan shared a love of music and spent many evenings dancing. Mike led an active lifestyle and loved to travel. He enjoyed watching and attending a variety of sporting events. Above all, Mike treasured the time spent with his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for family and friends.

So sorry to hear of the passing of such a good hearted man, husband and father. I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers over the days to come.
Our heartfelt condolences to you Jan and your wonderful family. Mike was such a sweet, soft spoken man with a great smile. I will miss not seeing him reading a book and enjoying the sun at Lifetime.
