Michael L. Mitchell was born December 27, 1960 in Omaha, to Harry M. and Verna L. Mitchell. He died June 12, 2025.
Mike was extremely proud of his time spent working at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and, for the last 33 years, Fine Lines Collision Repair. His time at the zoo reinforced his love for animals and nature. He especially loved his time in the aquarium. Mike found his true calling at Fine Lines. He loved the repair and restoration process. He was able to provide great service and take great care of people, which was so important to him. We saw many pictures of cars in progress and the final products. Mike had many hobbies and interests that we all got to enjoy. He spent many hours building remote control airplanes and cars. We would follow him up to the big empty schoolyard and watch the launches. His excitement seeing them take off was unmatched! It was truly something that brought him so much joy. He also had a deep love for fishing. He spent countless hours with many different family members patiently waiting to catch fish. Many memories and stories to keep telling from those fishing excursions! Many family members have been given a plant or wooden carving from Mike, two of his other hobbies. Mike loved gardening and helping his buddies paint their wooden creations. Mike also enjoyed blowing stuff up with his homemade fireworks, making beer, and mushroom hunting. He was an avid Husker fan and we know he will be cheering them on from above! His presence at the lake, at all of our family gatherings and in the daily/weekly phone calls will be deeply missed. He was our “crazy uncle Mike” that brought us so much joy and so many laughs. He was one of a kind for sure. Mike was never one to hide his feelings for his family. Every visit or call ended with “love ya.” We love you too, Mike, and will miss you forever. Always in our hearts.
Michael is survived by his children: Scott Gist, Brandie Gist, Whitney Vanderpool and Billie Mitchell; numerous grandchildren; sister, Cindy (late Bob) Faiman; niece, Kim (Tom) Marasco; nephews, Jeff (Jenny) Faiman and Will Mitchell. Mike is preceded in death by his brother Bill (late Nancy) Mitchell, niece Melanie Mitchell, brother-in-law Bob Faiman and by his parents.

Mike was a very kind person, and always made me feel important. I still have this awesome hat he gave me. It’s camo with a skull on it. It’s one of my favorites!
