Michael W. Steigleder
May 8, 1949 – July 13, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Steigleder, age 75, who left us suddenly but peacefully on July 13, 2024, in Omaha, Nebraska. Mike was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, boss, and friend.
Born and raised in Omaha, Mike was a lifelong resident of the city he loved. He was the son of Josephine and Willard Steigleder, attended Cathedral High School and grew up with a deep appreciation for the Catholic faith, family, hard work, and service to others. Mike founded MS Services in 1972, a painting company that he tirelessly built over decades, and which became his identity. There was very little separation between Mike’s professional and personal life by design. He intertwined family, friends, and employees—all of whom became part of his larger MS Services family.
Mike is survived by his wife, Marydale; his daughter Hon. Stephanie Steigleder Shearer and her husband Samuel Jason Shearer; his sons Andrew Willard Steigleder, Zachary Dale Steigleder, and Thomas Michael Steigleder; his six grandchildren, Andrew Willard Steigleder II, Luke Thomas Steigleder, Valerie Anne Steigleder, and Evan Michael Steigleder, the children of Andrew and Allison Broussard Steigleder, and Samuel Beckett Shearer and Callen Richard Shearer. He is also survived by his two loving sisters, Mary Jo Lockart and Anne Marie Clanton, his brother-in-law Carl Clanton, and his loyal dog and constant companion, Gracie. He is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law Elizabeth and Paul Vande Kieft, Rod and Nancy Lindstrom, Amy Silk, Dan Julian and numerous nieces and nephews.
Michael’s work, his family and friends meant everything to him, and he was a pillar of strength, love, and unending support for them.
Mike will be remembered for his booming voice, generous heart, and colorful language. He had a quick wit, great sense of humor, and was embedded in the lives and welfare of those close to him. Mike was a die-hard Nebraska Cornhuskers football and Creighton basketball fan, never missed a College World Series, and he lived for tailgating, anything off the grill, and sharing food that brought everyone together. He orchestrated numerous trips to Chicago to visit his grandchildren, to cheer on the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks, and to watch the Huskers when they played at Northwestern. In the end though, Mike was happiest after a hard day of work and when great food, laughs, and those he loved surrounded him.
Mike’s impact on those who knew him was profound. He was a man for others, known for his generosity, willingness to lend a helping hand, and give a chance to anyone if they were willing to work; however, and whenever he could. Mike was truly one of a kind and he will be deeply missed. Our greatest hope is that his spirit and legacy of hard work, service, and family will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
The Steigleder family extends their heartfelt thanks to everyone for their support and condolences during this difficult time.
Rest in peace, Big Mikey, you’ve earned it.

So sorry to hear of the death of one of my favorite classmates from Cathedral High School, Class of 1967. Mike was always fun to be around – the good Dominican sisters loved him even though they were all St. Louis Cardinals fans and Mike like the rival Chicago teams. Good athlete and an even better friend. Always loyal to our classmates. Condolences to his family and especially my friend Mary Jo Lockart.
Sorry for loss!

I have the fondest memories of Mike. During my many years as a community manager for Broadmoor Mike came to my rescue and that of the residents during many water and fire disasters. He always took care of everything with his calm and caring nature. His deep voice and big hugs were the best. My heartfelt condolences to the entire family. I am grateful to have known such an incredible man. Rest in peace Mike.

Mike was a blessing . Our paths didn’t cross often, but he was a welcoming smile whenever I got to see him. Tailgates at Nebraska football games or hanging out when my buddy Denny McGonigal came to town, Mike was a big, fun, gentle, friendly, super nice guy.. I’m so sorry for his family to lose such a treasure.
My sincere condolences to the family.RIP Mike
Dear All, you are in my thoughts and prayers…./count on them.
Love to all. Sr. Marie Micheletto
I met Mike pretty much right when I moved to omaha in 2005. And I can’t remember a.single time where he was not asking how I was, if I needed something to eat, to drink, needed any tickets, making sure I knew about all his tailgates, gifts for the holidays, and on and on.
One of the most hard working, caring sincere persons I’ve ever met. And I truly believe he worked so hard to make everyone else around him happy.
Love ya mike
