BURRELL, Mickey Ahlin, Feb 13, 1922 Jul 6, 2009. Mickey Ahlin Walmer Burrell, 87, of Omaha, NE and formerly of Corydon, IA, passed away at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha. Mickey was born on a farm in Promise City, IA, to Theodore and Zeora (Hesseltine) Walmer. Her early childhood was spent in Chariton, IA and Chicago, IL. Her school years were spent with her grandmother, Arminda Alice Close Hesseltine in Corydon, IA. She attended the University of Iowa, spending one year working in the war industry. She graduated in April 1944 with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce Degree. She was personally recruited and hired by Father Flanagan of Boys Town and spent two years teaching and one year as his office manager. She obtained her Masters of Science Degree in Education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She taught for Benson High School for 23 years, and for many years part-time for Metro Community College. On June 21, 1947 she married John Edward Burrell at First Methodist church in Omaha. She was a faithful and devoted member of the United Methodist church throughout her life. She served in many organizations, often in leadership positions, including AAUW, PTA, Educators Credit Union, Gamma Phi Beta, Phi Delta Gamma, and Phi Gamma Nu, Camp Fire Girls, Delta Kappa Gamma International, and Teachers Aid and Annuity Board and Benson High College Scholarship. Her hobbies include being an active Duplicate Bridge player, reading, needlework, gardening, and an avid domestic and international traveler. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Nancy Herrod of Las Vegas, NV, Judy Burrell of Omaha, Rebecca (Allen) Levy of Ormond Beach, FL and Thomas (Rebecca) Burrell of Sebastopol, CA; grandchildren: Heather, Jeffrey (Danielle), Andrea and Andrew Herrod, Suzanne (Adam) Krepela, Kelsey and Connor Burrell; great-grandsons, Lincoln and Gatlin Krepela; sister-in-law, Edith Burrell; step-grandchildren: Bryan Levy, Jordan, Nicholas and Jess Billesbach; sister, Clara Came of Covina, CA; nieces and nephews: Garry, Denise, Teresa, Monica, Colette, Brandon, Janet, Debbie and Dennis. She was preceded in death by her mother, Zeora Hessletine Walmer Fisher. VISITATION Thursday, 5:30-7pm, with FUNERAL SERVICE at 7pm at the West Center Chapel. GRAVESIDE SERVICE Friday, 1pm, Confidence Cemetery in Promise City, IA. Memorials are suggested to Benson High School for their College Scholarship Fund in memory of Mickey A. Burrell.
