Milburn Morton Sartin, Jr.
January 27, 1940 – May 24, 2024
Milburn (Mil, pronounced Mel) was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Milburn M. and Katharine R. Sartin. He received one of four metal train sets after the war, cementing his love of model railroading, which he pursued for the rest of his life. He was also fascinated with model airplanes, building many models with guidance from Ole Olsen, owner of the Benson Hobby Shop. When Mil was a kid, he was featured in the Omaha World Herald about their pug “Muff.” She had a liter of eight puppies which was twice the normal number for the breed.
He attended Westside High School on Pacific Street where met his future bride, Judy Metzger. Mil also got to play football with the legendary Pat Fisher. He went off to college at Colorado University in Boulder, joining Phi Kappa Psi, while Judy went to the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, joining Kappa Kappa Gamma.
Following graduation, Mil joined the Air Force, serving at various bases stateside. He married Judy in 1964 while stationed at Fort Lee, VA. Other postings included Charleston, SC and San Antonio, TX. Mil rose to the rank of Captain in his 5 years with the USAF. Their older son, Ken, was born in Charleston, SC.
After leaving the Air Force, Mil began his career as an Accountant with Haskin & Sells. He passed the CPA Exam in July 1969 and opened his own accounting firm around 1982. His younger son, Shaun Sartin, was born in 1970 in Omaha. He and Judy stayed busy socially, taking their kids to hockey with O.M.A.H.A. in the 70’s and 80’s during which he was a volunteer coach, commissioner, treasurer, and hockey strategist for many years. The fun continued with camping, canoeing, hunting and countless home projects than never seemed to end.
Finding model airplanes, a bit sedate, Mil returned to an earlier interest, motorcycles. He had repaired several ‘doodlebugs’ in high school. He graduated to dirt bikes then touring bikes. He took trips around the United States and Canada with friends and his two sons. He even went as far north as the Arctic Circle. Mil took his last trip just 2 years ago! He also became involved with cowboy action shooting and joined the Single Action Shooting Society – Nebraska Territorial Rangers where he became known as ‘Amarosa.’ Mil, along with his friends Steve Maji and Paul White, were also original Maverick Hockey season ticket holders for the past 25+ years.
He is survived by Judy, his wife of 60 years; sons, Kenneth (Sherry) of La Vista, NE, and Shaun (Tracy) of Lexington, KY, their two children, Cooper and Katherine; as well as a brother, Darrel (Ingrid) of Grand Junction, CO.
A lover of dogs large and small – Muff, Morgan, Polly, Charlie, Ben, Foxy, Jake and Duke, along with his horse, Roxann will all be waiting for him!
Celebration of Life Gathering: Saturday, June 1st from 3:00PM-5:00PM at West Center Chapel.

Judy, sending my condolences. Prayers for you and your family.
Sendin g prayerss of gratitude for a life well lived by a kind and caring guy as we release his bright and beautiful spirit into the arms of Love and Light. May Judy and the family find comfort and peace with his passing as they hold him forever in their hearts with love. So it is, Amen.
Mil lived across from on Western Avenue growing up., so I have known him since I was five years old. We both rode horses at Hillside Stables and went to the same schools, although he was a year older than I.
Both our families moved west and we both attended Westside High. Lo and behold he ended up marrying my best friend Judy. When I had children, Mil and Judy became God Parents to my two girls Holly and Heather and I became God Mother to Judy and Mil’s two boys. When daughter Holly had children, Judy and Mil’s boys became God Fathers to Holly and Tim’s two boys.
When I was divorced, Mil became a surrogate father to my girls. A role my children and I will always cherish! Mil was always a good friend Out family loved him dearly and will miss him forever!!
I shall always remember Mil as the “guy on the grill” along with Ron Rapp at our Kappa pledge class reunion.. He was always congenial and forever the perfect host.. He made everything more fun.
I always secretly envied your adventures together and with the boys. Such wonderful memories you share. May they bring a smile to your face and peace to your heart in the days ahead. How lucky we were to have known him!
