Mindy L. Gargano

Mindy L. Gargano

December 16, 1957 – July 6, 2024

Mindy Gargano was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on December 16, 1957.  She was raised by her mother, Carolyn, and father, Eugene, alongside her brother, Mike. She graduated from Westside High School and attended the University of Nebraska, Omaha for two years, joining the Sigma Kappa sorority.  She met the love of her life,Tom Gargano, who was in the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity with her brother Mike. Mindy and Tom were married on May 7, 1982, and later they had 4 children, who became her entire world.

Mindy worked in various professions with Millard Public Schools and Immanuel Health so that she could spend summers with her babies. Mindy’s hobbies were her kids, which meant many vacations were spent traveling the country for hockey or softball.

Mindy was an incredible woman in many ways. She had a presence about her that many were drawn to; she spent her life taking care of and giving to others. She made people feel special. Mindy was “mom” to everyone.

Mindy was also a fighter. She won the battle against cancer on three separate occasions. She showed her children how to be strong and how to pick themselves up should they fall.

In her later years, Mindy’s dream of becoming a grandmother became a reality, almost all at once, with seven grandchildren in six years. She instilled in them her love of Christmas; baking thirty types of Christmas cookies with them was her favorite tradition. She was well-known for spoiling them as much as she could, showering them with love and gifts was her favorite pastime.

Mindy was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Bonner; and brother, Mike Bonner.

She is survived by her mother, Carolyn Bonner; her husband, Tom Gargano; her four children and their spouses: Tommy and Liz Gargano, Tim and Savannah Gargano, Jen and Shaun Jungier, and Jessica and AJ Wight; her seven grandchildren: Ameliana, Mia, Gaia, Thomas (LT), Michael, Maverick and Sophia.

Mindy was the best sister in law and friend anyone could ever want. She was always ready to listen when I would call for one of our many long chats we shared. She loved her family and adored her grandchildren. She loved all the special times she shared with them. I am sure she is looking down from heaven watching over all of us and smiling the way she always did no matter what life handed her. She left her mark on all of us. She may be gone but not forgotten and her memories will live on forever.

I just learned of Mindy’s passing today from a fellow classmate. Mindy and I were best friends at Westside High School. We lost touch over the years, but I still remember when she got engaged/married and knew how much she loved her family. My most earnest condolences to the family. Hugs and prayers for you all.
