Nicholas Joseph Spelic

Age 37

Nicholas left this life on Friday, November 8, 2019, to join his earthly father, Stephen, his canine best friend, Robby, and his Heavenly Father. His grandparents, John Joseph Stockard and Joann Munagle and Joseph and Clair Spelic are there to welcome him into comfort. Nicholas is survived by his mother, Stephanie Stockard Spelic and brother, Zachary Spelic (Chassidy Kruger) and twin nieces, Elliana and Karina Spelic. Many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends mourn his loss.

Nicholas was the first born child of Stephanie and Stephen Spelic, of Omaha, Ne. He graduated from St. Margaret Mary grade school, Creighton Prep (2000) and Creighton University (2004). For eight years he worked as a master data analyst for ConAgra foods, until September of 2013 when a tragic event brought his young and promising life to a painful standstill. After six years of suffering from the aftermath of this event, our beloved Nicholas was gathered peacefully home to his Creator with his mother and brother at his side. His family and friends profoundly grieve his loss but rejoice in the comfort and peace he now enjoys.

Thank you to his early caregivers at Madonna and Ambassador, Lincoln. We are most grateful to his kind and loving caregivers, staff and fellow residents and volunteers at Ambassador, Omaha and Amedsys Hospice. Thank you, Father Snow and St. John parish, for welcoming Nicholas back to his baptismal home and comforting both Nicholas and his family.

There will be a celebration of Nicholas’ life on Friday, November 15, 2019, at St. John Catholic Church (Creighton University Campus), 2500 California Plaza, Omaha, NE. Visitation with family will begin at 9AM with a funeral mass at 10AM. A reception will follow in St. John parish hall.

Memorials may be made to Lauritzen Gardens, Nebraska Border Collie Rescue (Gretna, NE) or St. Johns parish (social justice group).

Stephanie and Zachary, Nicholas will not soon be forgotten. His impact upon my life is treasured. He reminded me to look beyond the surface, seeking the hidden gem God has placed within each of us. Nick’s heart and humor were evident. Thanks for sharing him with those of us at Ambassador.

I did not know Nic for very long at Conagra, but I remember him as so warm and friendly towards me and everyone else. He always made sure to smile and say hi when passing each other in the hallway. He was also very giving. I remember he would tell me I’m always welcome to come up to his desk and have gummy bears or ice cream sandwiches that he stored in the 3rd floor freezer. He was just so very special. I have been following the updates on caring bridge since 2013 and always rooted for a full recovery. Even though that did not happen, I’m glad that he is at peace now. I just hope he knows what a special man he was and how he made every lasting impressions on everyone at Conagra. Rest In Peace, Nic. Save some gummy bears for me up there.

Dearest Stephanie, I would have been there today but I just now at end of day read the obituaries and saw Nicholas’s name and beautiful face. I’m sorry for your loss now and before and also for the pain you’ve had to carry so long. I send you love and prayers for comfort and consolation, the ability to accept, and the ability to move on. Nicholas was a beautiful spirit in life and is a beautiful spirit still. And I’m sure there is a big welcome Celebration going on. God Bless you and Zachary and his darling family.
