Niko Spire was born on May 9, 2001, in Omaha, Nebraska, where he grew up.  He graduated from Papillion South High School on May 12, 2019.  Niko was a third-year student at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, pursuing a degree in Journalism.  He adored and was adored by his mother, Kelly, four siblings: Lexi, Kobe, Jade, and Terriana; April Withers, his significant other, as well as a wealth of other family and friends who were blessed to have had him in their lives.

In high school, Niko was a varsity basketball player, dedicated to his team.  One of his teammates (and life-long friend), John Tonje spoke of Niko’s pure and genuine heart: “Everyone who knew him knows how special he was, always making people laugh and keeping a smile on his face, regardless of what was going on.”

Niko had over 800,000 followers on Tik Tok.  But he wasn’t successful because of a need for notoriety.  Instead, people recognized his playful authenticity and connected with the humorous life-situations he created: the plain goofiness of life.

The legacy Niko leaves all of us is never to take life for granted and to recognize the brilliant lights among us, who may be suffering themselves.   His grandpa said: “He was everything you could have wished for in a grandson.  He loved his mom, brother, sisters, and family to the moon and back.  He was smart, funny and just a great person.”

Niko’s death came way too soon, but his love and laughter live on with those who will always cherish his memory.  Well-wishers are encouraged to send flowers and other expressions of love and to contribute to a memorial fund which has been set up to help the family.

Arrangements are under the direction of Heafey Hoffman Dworak Cutler Mortuaries, Omaha, Nebraska

Blessings to your family. My heart is breaking for you. I did not personally know Niko but I know Kobe, Jada and Jade and my son Kyle knew Niko. I’ve heard stories of how funny he was and can see his personality and likeness in Kobe. I pray for healing and that you can celebrate Niko’s life. God bless.

I remember you as a sweet boy at our apartment complex that helped my daughter when bigger kids were trying to steal her bike from her. You were always such a good young man! I hope you find your peace!
