Nina Holt- Jensen
March 15, 1916-June 11, 2024
Nina Pauline Blackburn was born pre-maturely on a farm south of Wilcox, Nebraska. At 3 pounds her NICU care consisted of a shoe box positioned on an open oven door, yet her miracle of life continued for 108 years.
Nina graduated from Minden High School, where she and a friend stayed during the week. At that time, her family lived on a farm near Norman, Nebraska; her brother, Ralph Blackburn, would take her to Minden on Mondays and pick her up on Friday. Nina then attended Hastings Business College and subsequently worked at the Debus Baking Company in Hastings.
While attending a New Year’s Eve dance, she met Andrew Holt who was working as a supervisor at the Naval Ammunition Depot. They were married in June of 1943. Hastings is where they raised their family and in 1960 started a business, then known as Hastings Diesel Service. Unfortunately, Andy died in 1968.
In 1982, Nina married Vearl Jensen. They had many fine years together, traveled in a motorhome, and wintered in Yuma, AZ for 22 years. Vearl was a wonderful man, and they developed many friendships during that time.
After Vearl’s death in 2013, Nina moved from College View in Hastings to live her final years at Heritage Pointe Assisted Living in Omaha, Nebraska. She always greeted her numerous visitors with a smile and grateful disposition.
In addition to her two husbands and six siblings, Nina was preceded in death by her son, Donald Holt, and daughter-in-law, Laurie Holt. She leaves behind daughter, Susan Shreck, daughter-in-law, Patricia Holt, and son, James Holt, along with 5 stepchildren, 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. All her descendants will dearly miss our longtime family matriarch.
