Norma Liljedahl Johnson

Norma Liljedahl Johnson, 102, of Omaha, NE died peacefully on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Aksarben Senior Living. Born in West Hartford, CT, the daughter of Thor and Hannah Liljedahl, she lived in West Hartford, CT for 90 years until her move to Omaha NE to be close to her daughter, Lynn Johnson Smith.

Norma graduated from William H. Hall High School, Class of 1941. She was a lifelong member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hartford, CT where the church served as a central part of her life. Her faith was very important to her, and she demonstrated her strong commitment to her beliefs through her active participation in all areas of the church from the Altar Guild to the annual Sl Lucia Craft Fair.

Norma enjoyed playing golf, sailing, gardening, Chinese painting, cross country skiing, and knitting beautiful sweaters and afghans for family and friends. In addition, Norma enjoyed traveling. She and Everett drove across the United States and took trips to China, Russia, South America, Israel, Sweden, and Europe to name a few. She had a thirst for lifelong learning that was an inspiration to all who knew her

She is preceded in death by her husband, Everett, to whom she was married for 71 years, Norma leaves two children and their spouses William and Barbara Johnson of West Hartford, CT Lynn and Jim Smith of Omaha, NE. She was grandmother to Barbara and Bill’s children, Michael Donahue of San Diego, CA and Cathy Spier of Shoreham, NY, and their families. She was the grandmother to Lynn and Jim’s children, James T. Smith III (Jamie) of Omaha, NE and Jennifer (Smith) and Nicholas Thielen of Omaha, NE. She leaves 3 great granddaughters, Audrey, Julia and Claire Thielen. She was the loving aunt to Rick and Russ Liljedahl and their families.

Norma believed there was nothing more important than family, and she nurtured relationships with relatives far and wide throughout her life. She seemed to know everyone and served as the historian for our family. Norma will surely be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

A private memorial service in West Hartford, CT will be held at a later date.
