Odell B. Weston, Sr.
December 15, 1930 – September 7, 2018
After two years of a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer, Odell B. Weston, Sr., AKA “Double O Soul” passed away at his home on Friday, September 7, 2018. Odell began his professional career by enlisting in the United States Army in February 1951. While touring in Korea, Odell served with the 13th Field Artillery Battalion, where he earned a Korean Service Ribbon, with a Bronze Service Star. In addition, Odell received the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and the Republic Korean Presidential Unit Citation. Odell received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army in December of 1954. After completing his military service, Odell moved from East St Louis, Illinois to Omaha, Nebraska. Shortly after moving to Omaha, Odell accepted a position with the United States Postal Service. Odell dedicated over 30 years of service to the United States Postal Service before retiring as a supervisor on January 9, 1993.
Known for his spirit of giving and helping others, especially the youth, Odell often volunteered with many youth events, various organized athletic teams, and the American Legion drill teams. Under Odell’s leadership, many of the teams participated in statewide competitions. Odell strongly believed by working with and supporting the youth of Omaha, the entire community would benefit.
Odell was actively involved in the community, and until his death, he was one of the oldest living original members of the Midwest Athletic Club, serving in many positions. In addition, he was a long-standing member as well as former Post Commander of the Charles Williamson American Legion Post 30 of Nebraska. While being a member of the Omaha Elks Club, he served as the Club’s president and treasurer.
While Odell accomplished many things in his lifetime, he believed his greatest accomplishments were his two sons. A man can have many possessions and items in this world, however, none can measure up to the greatness of his children. Many relatives and friends will sorely miss Odell.
