Pat was born in Altus, Oklahoma on February 23, 1940, to Harry and Hazel Laverne McCool. As a child in a military (Air Force) family, she lived in many places throughout the United States and in Morocco and Africa, and traveled to many more. Though they moved frequently, the family regularly returned to Oklahoma and later, Colorado Springs, to visit family. Pat graduated from Central High School (Omaha, 1958.)

Pat married Donald Elliott in 1958, and the family grew to include four children (Sue, Ken, Dave, and Brad) by 1963. Over the next few years, the family lived in Omaha, Norfolk, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Hettinger, North Dakota. They moved back to Omaha in 1968 and lived in the Westridge neighborhood.  In 1975 they purchased land and built a home in Honey Creek, Iowa.  In 1978 the family expanded once more with the birth of daughter, Jennifer.   Pat was actively involved in the lives of her children, including serving as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader.

Pat earned her degree in nursing at the College of Saint Mary, Omaha. In 1982, after her divorce, Pat and Jennifer moved near family in the Oklahoma City area. In 1987 Pat and Jennifer moved to the place she loved most–Colorado Springs. She continued her education in nursing, earning a bachelor’s and later a master’s degree in nursing. She worked as a nurse and a nurse educator.

Pat retired to Omaha in 2010 to be with family. She maintained her passion for health and education throughout her life.  She loved gardening and plants, reading, crossword puzzles, and playing games.

Pat was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in early 2020. With the care of her oncologists and family, Pat fought and beat cancer.  Her health took a sudden turn one week prior to her death, which allowed for all her children and many other family members to be with her in her final days.  Pat passed peacefully on Sunday, February 18th with two of her children and her beloved dog, Pokey, by her side.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Hazel LaVerne McCool; daughter-in-law, Jana; and former husband, Donald.  She is survived by her five children: Susan Hoffman (Dan), Kenneth (Julie), David (Wendi), Bradley (Billie Jo), and Jennifer Elliott; ten grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; sister (Peggy Sue Jensen) and brother James McCool.
