Patricia (Quinlan) Goodell

February 23, 1928 – October 11, 2018

Preceded in death by husband, Frank; sons, Francis and Stephen; great-granddaughter, Madelyn Shumaker.  Survived by daughters: Mary Fisher (Paul), Catherine Heck (Joseph), and Regina Shumaker (David); thirteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 14^th from 2pm to 3pm at the West Center Chapel, with TIME OF SHARING and VIGIL SERVICE immediately following.  MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Monday, October 15^th at 10am at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 1920 N. 102^nd Ave.  Interment, Calvary Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to Siena/Francis House or Poor Sisters of St. Clare.

Patricia Quinlan was the third child of John Joseph and Margaret Mary (McCarthy) Quinlan.  She had three brothers—two older and one younger.  During World War II, the older brothers saw distinguished military service. William Quinlan, the oldest, died in the sinking of the troop ship Leopoldville in the English Channel on Christmas Day, 1944. His name is engraved on the façade of Memorial Park on Dodge Street in Omaha.

Patricia received close guidance from her mother as well as from her aunt, Blanche McCarthy, and her godmother, Helen Hoye, in the large family home in north Omaha.

Patricia was educated at Miller Park Elementary School and North High School, graduating in 1946.  In 1947 she met Francis “Frank” Goodell, a graduate student at Creighton University, and married him in 1949 at St. John Catholic Church on the Creighton campus.  She eventually became a faithful member of Catholic Daughters, an organization to which she belonged for many years.

For four years, Patricia worked at U.S. National Bank before signing on with the World Book-Childcraft organization.  During her 25-year sales career with World Book-Childcraft, she received many honors and was recognized for multiple achievements in the states where they moved—Nebraska, Missouri, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.  After retiring from World Book, Patricia and her husband returned to Omaha, her old home town.  After twenty years of independent living, Patricia and her husband developed health infirmities that required an assisted care facility. They moved to the New Cassel Retirement Center in 2013; after Frank’s death in 2015, Patricia moved to Brighton Gardens.
