Patricia Jean (nee Ethofer) Young
May 14, 1937 – August 21, 2025
Patricia Jean (nee Ethofer) Young of Mason, OH, 88, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025.
Patricia was born in Omaha, NE to Stephen and Margaret (nee Sullivan) Ethofer on May 14, 1937. She was the youngest of seven children.
She met Donald Rex Young, her “forever true North” at Lake Okoboji, Iowa when she was 16. They were inseparable until Don’s enlistment into the army when she waited for him to come back. They married May 10, 1958 and enjoyed 35 years of marriage before his death.
While her first home was Omaha, Don’s job took them to other places where she always made a home. They resided in Illinois for 13 years until settling in Mason, Ohio for 30 years. Pat and Don loved square dancing and could be found dancing two to three times a week in matching outfits that Pat had sewn herself.
Pat decided to further her education and went to nursing school at the age of 40. She would go on to give the next 25 years caring for others at the VA medical center.
Pat had a passion for traveling and wandered the globe. Her favorite trip was to Egypt but her favorite place to visit was wherever her family was. With family spread across 3 states, Pat was an experienced vacationer so she could see all her children and grandchildren cheering on all of their various life achievements, sports and activities.
As a 3 time cancer survivor, Pat was an icon of resilience and strength. Pat was active in her community, swimming with a group known as “the Mermaids” and having served as Eucharistic Minister at St John’s Catholic Church for many years.
She was preceded in death by her siblings and her husband. Pat is survived by her children: Rex Steven Young, Karen (Dr. Arthur) Craig and Janet (Dan) Ordos; grandchildren: Robert (Rebecca Griffith) Young, Kristy Young, Andrew Craig, Sarah Craig, Mitchell Ordos (Dr. Catherine Mamah), Nathan (Lindsay) Ordos and Allyse (Pablo) Mendizabal.
Please join us in celebrating her wonderful and loving life.
