Patricia “Patti” Diann (Evans) Kathol

Patricia “Patti” Diann (Evans) Kathol

May 12, 1947 – December 21, 2023

Patti Kathol, wife/mother/Gram, left this earth peacefully with family by her side on the evening of the winter solstice during her favorite holiday season, Christmas.

Her long struggle with Alzheimer’s is over, but there were so many moments of joy up until the very end.  Her life is a legacy of love, caring, and service.  Whether teaching Sunday School for multiple decades, serving as a Girl Scout leader, as the PTA Secretary and President of her three kids’ primary, middle, and high schools, or serving at homeless shelters for multiple years, Patti was a tireless volunteer.  She enjoyed traveling, Bible studies, reading, playing piano, making crafts, dancing, walking (especially in streams), and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She was funny, smart, lighthearted, steadfast in her faith and love, and one of the toughest people around.

Patti was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ruth Evans, and brother, Wallace Robb.  She is survived by her husband, Gene; children: Matthew Evans Kathol, Megan Burbach Kathol Bersett (Kevin), Amanda McCloud Castellote (Javier); grandchildren: Andaluz Teale Bersett, Petra Kathol Bersett, Killian Alfredo Castellote, and Ariella McCloud Castellote; sisters, Michelle Lemire and Tina Long (Bob); brother, Everett Robb (Marilyn).  There are so many others who also claim her as their second mother, dear friend, or family.  There is no doubt that Patti leaves this world a brighter place, and her light will continue to shine through all the peoples’ lives that she touched so deeply.

VISITATION: Thursday, December 28th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the West Center Chapel.  MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Friday, December 29th 10: 30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2204 Binney St. in Omaha.  Interment: Calvary Cemetery, 7710 W. Center Rd.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Madonna School (serving kids with intellectual or developmental disabilities) or CUES (Christian Urban Education Service).

I’m so sorry to hear of Patti’s passing. I remember her fondly from my childhood. When I hurt my knee as a child, Patti loaded me and my Mom up in her Suburban and took me to the hospital. It was in that same suburban where I admitted my crush on Matt to Megan (in Pig Latin) and unbeknownst to me, Patti completely understood Pig Latin and answered me that she thought he was cute too. Sending my love to all!

Gene and family, Edgar and I are praying for the comfort of the Holy Spirit during this time of loss — during one of the last times we visited with Gene and Patti I had the sweet opportunity to sit and visit with her about her Bible — we discovered we both loved and was comforted by John 3:16 — It is comforting to know Patti is living her best life; eternally with our Abba Father and so we can say zaijian “see you again” Patti — So happy we got to know you — Edgar and Anna
