Patrick J. Bystrek
August 21, 1965 – March 24, 2019
Preceded in death by father, Charles Bystrek; brother, David Bystrek; and nephew, Mark Bystrek. Survived by wife, Ida, sons John “Jack” and Thomas “Tab” Bystrek; stepdaughters, Maycee and Kenzie Carroll; mother, Rita Bystrek; sisters, Anne Page and Barbara Bailey (Scott); brother, Daniel Bystrek (Luz); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Patrick graduated from Creighton Prep High School, attended University of Kansas, and graduated from University of Omaha, and managed EDM, the family business, for 31 years.
Pat enjoyed spending time with “the love of his life,” Ida; his boys, Jack and Tab; his stepdaughters, Maycee and Kenzie; and his mom, Rita. They spent countless hours playing cards and table games, watching sports, listening to music, and having a good time. Pat loved to make others laugh and his humorous personality will be forever cherished.
Patrick loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing at the lake and took pleasure in simple things, like grilling out for his family and relaxing poolside. He also loved coaching his sons’ sports and being on the sidelines to cheer them on.
Pat’s sense of caregiving was evident in his everyday life. He always put others before himself and made sure everyone was taken care of. He ran the family business, made a point to personally connect with others, and reached out to people in need. Pat’s contagious spirit will live on forever in our hearts.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 28th from 5pm to 7pm at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3122 S. 74th St., followed by VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Friday, March 29th at 11am, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Private interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Creighton Prep or Ad Gentes Ministries.

My heart goes out to Pats’ family. Rita, Dan, Barb, Ann-may the Lord wrap his arms around you and console you all at this difficult time. Memories come flooding back of the 13 years I worked for your family. May the Lord bring peace to all of you.
I met Pat about 7 years ago. He was the most positive, gregarious, magnanimous person one could ever meet! He always talked about his love for his family and just adored you all, especially his mom! He always told me to stretch every day because that is what his mom did and it kept her young! 🙂 I am so sorry for your loss! I know from talking with him that your family was his core and you were always close to his heart. He loved you all so much. Forever and always,. My prayers are with you during this time. My deepest sympathies to all of you.
When we lose a loved one here on earth, we gain an angel in heaven that watches over us. May you take comfort in knowing that you have an angel to watch over you now. We extend our most sincere condolences to you.
Dear Ida & Family. — My heart goes out to all of you, and I offer my deepest sympathy to you! Pat was such a lively, welcoming man, and I truly appreciated the effort he made to welcome me. I will be praying for peace and comfort and a flood of happy memories to comfort you all.
Pat has been a good friend of our family for decades, but we feel we lost a close relative. My Cousin is Jim Urban, a dear friend of Pat’s. Pat was a Pallbearer for my Mother, has always been there for us, giving comfort and making us laugh. We are so sorry for this tragic loss of a sweet man who loved his kids. I was also in Grade School with David. Wishing you peace to bring you comfort and courage to face the days ahead. Loving memories of Pat will remain in our hearts forever.
Our entire family is grieving with all of you. Only God knows the pain in our hearts. Yet God also IS the way the truth and the life Heaven is a beautiful place and all of our loved ones are rejoicing in HIS glory. Prayers, hugs and love to all of you
Thinking of this great family at such a sorrowful time. God only gives you what you can handle however impossible that seems at the time. Join your suffering with the Blessed Mother’s suffering at the death of her son. She understands and will intercede for you.

We remember Patrick,Pat as a little boy and what a cutie he was. Our children are the same ages as the Bystrek children and my heart aches to know one of the neighborhood boys is gone. As we share the same faith we all know he has reached the final destination we are all living for. God bless us all that are left behind as He has certainly blessed “Pat” already.
My prayers go out to the Bysttek family. I think Patrick was in my daughter’s grade at Joan of arc, or maybe my son John. Daughter, Angela. God bless you all.
My deepest sympathy to the Bystrek family. Thinking and praying for you all in this difficult time.
Rita, Dan, Barb and Ann and all of the Bystrek Family – our hearts go out to all of you in the loss of Pat. Working for your company was an honor and Pat always took time to see how things were, to ask about what was going on in ones life and was never afraid to talk about his strong faith. He was proud of his family. May each of you know that you are in our thoughts and prayers at this time and in the days and weeks to follow. May God continue to wrap his arms around all of you and may you get strength from leaning on each other through this time. God’s blessings to all of you during this difficult time.
Received this news with much sadness. While we can’t get there, please know our thoughts and prayers will be. Love you…. Denny
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Bystrek family. I am thankful that Pat was a generous man that always had a thankyou for the things I did, and a concern in what was happening in my life. We all know that he is in a good place with God now.
My thoughts and prayers to the Bystrek family. Pat and I went to UNO together. I was much older than Pat and loved being around him.. He coached my son’s basketball team in 7th and 8th grade at Christ the King. It was a special time in my life and he made a difference to the kids and parents when he was so young. I am so sorry….He was special..
We are saddened beyond words for the loss of such a kind & wonderful soul. God has gained an angel and we pray for them to watch over us.

To Pat’s Family: My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I know that the Lord will be with you through this time.
With deepest sympathy to the Bystrek family and the EDM family. Pat trusted me enough to work with his company and liked me enough to be onry with me! It will be most difficult to walk through those doors at EDM and not have Pat say, “let’s hurry up”. Ms. Rita – my heart is full of love and sympathy to you. Tami Damian, LEAD Group, Inc.

I met Pat just twice at his business at EDM and I genuinely enjoyed our interactions. It is very true that his attitude and spirit were caregiving and boisterous. May he rest in peace.
