Paul Everett Northrop
September 8, 1933 – February 12, 2025
Paul Everett Northrop, Jr., 91, of Ashland, NE passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025. Born on September 8, 1933, in Indianola, Iowa, Paul was the son of Paul E. Northrop, Sr. and Grace (Chase) Northrop. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Pauline Strike, and his nephew Robert Strike, Jr.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Sally Houfek Northrop; his son Paul Scott (Dharlene) Northrop; stepsons Greg (Cheryl) Houfek and Mark Houfek; grandchildren Paul Wesley (Ali) Northrop, Charlcie (Adam) Sieg, Alyssa (Jared) Dorhout, Zach (Maddie) Houfek; and eight great-grandchildren who brought him great joy.
A proud graduate of Indianola High School where he was a three-sport letterman, Paul furthered his education at Stout Institute in Menomonie, WI. His commitment to service led him to the U.S. Navy, where he served as a CT 3rd Class in Hawaii and Guam for nearly four years.
Paul’s career spanned 40 years, including work as a salesman for Dictaphone, Masury-Columbia, Tax Research Institute of America, and Neon Sign Products. His professional achievements were matched by his deep love for nature, which was reflected in his hobbies. As a young man, he enjoyed fishing, and as he grew older, he developed a passion for birding and wildlife spotting. This culminated in his being the president of the local Izaak Walton League for eight years.
Paul’s true passion, however, was in the visual arts. He was a talented artist, creating many beautiful drawings, paintings, and woodcarvings throughout his life. His works were a testament to his creativity and attention to detail.
Those who knew Paul remember him as a kind, thoughtful, and gracious man who was always well-liked. He was especially grateful for the wonderful support he received from the staff at Oxbow Assisted Living and the caring team at St. Croix Hospice.
Memorial Service: Saturday, February 15th, 2pm at West Center Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Salvation Army, a cause close to Paul’s heart.
Paul will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, art, and kindness will continue to inspire those who knew him.

1 Condolence
Jeanne and I are sad to hear of Paul’s passing. We were neighbors of Paul and Sally for many years.
Paul was a good friend and I spent many a day sharing stories and with him outside. He was a good man and we will miss him.
