Pauline A. Devlin

July 18, 1926 – July 23, 2024

Spring Lake, Michigan

Mrs. Pauline Ann Devlin, age 98, passed away peacefully at her home in Spring Lake, Michigan, on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, with family by her side and holding her rosary.  Pauline was born in Columbus, Nebraska, on July 18, 1926, to Joseph and Julia (Kobus) Wielgus. She grew up in Columbus where St. Anthony’s Church was the center of their lives. After graduating from Kramer High School, she got a job at a dime store making .22 cents per hour, and next worked at a Building and Loan Company. In 1947, Pauline met through a blind date, the only man she truly loved, Dick Devlin. He had just returned from serving overseas and was attending college on the GI Bill at Omaha University. On June 8, 1949, Pauline married Dick, and they resided in Omaha and raised their five children. After being a full-time mom for many years, Pauline went to work for the Westside Community Schools as a health aide and later a paraeducator in Special Ed, retiring after 21 years in 1993. She and Dick were parishioners of Mary Our Queen Catholic Church, where she was active in the prayer group, the prayer chain, and her weekly Hour of Adoration. She was also a Eucharistic Minister and Hospital Eucharistic Minister. Pauline was the “go to” person when prayers were needed by anyone in her family.

After Dick died in 2016, Pauline moved to Spring Lake to live near her daughter and her family. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was active in her Senior Living Community, Baldwin House. She loved cooking, gardening, travel, and was an avid reader.  She also had an extensive angel collection. She was involved in various Bible Studies, including Bible Study Fellowship International. The great loves of her life were her husband, children, grandkids and great- grandkids; but most importantly the Lord of Heaven and Earth. She wanted to be remembered as a woman of strong faith in God.

She is survived by her children: David (Mary Lou) Devlin of Colorado, Julianne (Jim) Walkenhorst of Michigan, Timothy Devlin of Thailand, Thomas (Lynda) Devlin of California, and Patrick (Karla) Devlin of Arizona; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marianne (Devlin) Grubaugh.  In addition to her husband, Dick, Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Thomas Wielgus and Leo Wielgus; and sister, Helen Matherly.
