Peter Gomez

December 14, 1959 – October 4, 2022

VISITATION: Friday, October 7th from 5pm to 7pm at the West Center Chapel, followed by WAKE SERVICE at 7pm.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Saturday, October 8th at 10:30am, St. James Catholic Church.

Pete Gomez passed away at the age of 62 on October 4th, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

Pete was born to Pedro and Carmen Gomez on December 14, 1959. Growing up in South Omaha, his family cultivated a rich tradition of weekly parties to bring everyone together. Pete continued this tradition by hosting large parties, sharing his home-made salsa, and volunteering his time to help others. After developing a passion for repairing intricate machinery, Pete began a rewarding career for the United States Postal Service. Here, he not only became a trusted leader of others, but also met and fell in love with his wife, Nancy. Together, they raised six children. Pete and Nancy shared their love of the great outdoors by exploring national parks with their children in a 1980’s Winnebago that, of course, Pete kept well maintained.

He is best remembered for his faith in God, unending generosity, and deep love for his family and friends. As a strong Catholic, he was involved in his church and a role model for others in their faith. As a skilled craftsman, he always made time to teach others about automotive repair and home remodeling. From small things, like changing the oil, to large-scale drywalling projects, Pete always found great joy in helping others.

Pete’s love and passion for service did not end this week. He lives on through his beloved wife Nancy; children Jeremy Stone (Wendy), Jacob Stone (Tiffany), Caitlyn Schaeffer (Andrew), Cara Zimmer (Andy), Mary Rose Gomez, and Joe Gomez; sisters Linda Gomez and Marcia Gomez; brother Richard Gomez (Rose); mother-in-law Jean Naughton; grandchildren Christian, Jaden, Kaleb, McKinley, Camden, Harper, Stetson, Aleyna, Olive, and Marin; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.

    Pete,
I am so incredibly thankful and blessed to have had the opportunity to know you. I have watched your unconditional love for your wife, children and grandchildren over the years and it truly has been remarkable. I remember one day, you made maryrose and I one outside so you can reach us how to change a tire – you made us watch through the entire thing…. You always were more than willing to help when help was needed. Rest peacefully Pete 🤎

    With love,
    Marisa

Dear Peter, thank you for being a great example and gentle but steadfast faith. You made my life better even though I did not get to see you many times. You gave me a desire to be a loving person and to be a better father than I saw in the mirror, and with God’s grace that desire was fulfilled. Thank you, you lion, you Captain, you shepherd, you dear man. You are loved deeply here on earth as in heaven.

Very sorry for the loss, Pete was one of the nicest guys I knew. Ran into him at the Quik Shop getting gas about 5 years ago, we talked a little.
