Phillip Joseph Glassman

Phillip Joseph Glassman

February 10, 1953-October 26, 2024

Phillip Joseph Glassman, beloved husband, father, and Papa, passed away at home on Oct 26, 2024 after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer. He was 71 years old. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Phil and Marguerite Glassman. He is survived by his wife, Jerrie Glassman; children, Jacqueline Glassman, Jessica (Chad) Bloodworth, John Glassman, Mya Glassman, and Elana Glassman; grandchildren, Titan, Helix, and Moses Glassman; Emerson, Everett, and Oliver Bloodworth. He is also survived by his siblings, Mark (Debbie) Glassman, Mike Glassman, and Maggie (Fred) Marino; numerous nieces and nephews who he loved as his own, and a large extended family including his dear friends from childhood, from Gamco, and many others over the years.

Phil was born on February 10, 1953, in Omaha, NE as the eldest of four children. He grew up in Omaha and Council Bluffs attending St. Richard’s, Omaha Central, and Lewis Central. After graduation in 1971, he attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha and studied psychology. He left school for a job in printing that took him to California. Upon his return to Omaha, he founded International Gamco in 1983 with several of his friends, forging lifelong relationships with his partners, employees, and their families.

He owned and operated Gamco for 35 years. It was his ultimate pride. Throughout that time, he played a number of other roles: guitarist, band member, softball coach, car enthusiast, devout Catholic, philanthropist, pool boy, and elite grounds keeper. But most importantly, he was a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, husband, and father. His most cherished role was “Papa” to his grandchildren.

Phil lived his life in a selfless way and his generosity knew no bounds. Before thinking of himself, he was always thinking of others. He worked tirelessly to provide a life full of opportunities, discipline, and love for his family. Further, he brought a determination and caliber to life that was unmatched by most – “if something’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right.”

In his final years, Phil brought a passionate and well calculated fight to his cancer diagnosis. Had he submitted the research and analysis he performed over these past several years related to his cancer and treatment, he would’ve been awarded a Ph.D.; all with the goal to extend the time with those he loved. He beat the odds in so many ways, and we are forever grateful for the time, memories, and love we got to experience because of it.

Help us to celebrate Phil’s life by making donations to the Lung Cancer Research Foundation whose advancements in cancer treatment allowed us more time with our beloved husband and father.

Dearest Jerrie, John, Jackie, Jess, Mya and Elana, May our great God give you strength and comfort as you process the loss of this wonderful man, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and friend to so many. Phil has left an indelible mark on my heart, giving me encouragement until the very end. Though I am saddened to tears, I cherish having known him, trusting Jesus will awaken him to his heavenly home, where we will be together again. I can hear him now saying, “keep the faith.”
