Phyllis L. Matthews

December 24, 1932 – February 22, 2025

Phyllis Leota Bollesen was born in Plainview, Nebraska on December 24, 1932 to Rev. Martinus and Rose Bollesen. She entered into eternal rest on February 22, 2025, at age 92 while living at Country House Residence memory care facility.

She lived in several Midwest cities growing up and even in Canada for a time. She graduated from Audubon high school in 1950 and attended Dana College.

While living in Blair, she met Donald Ringler and they married August 10,1952. Into this union were born three children, Sharla Kay, Sandra Renae and Scott Alan. The family moved around in the Midwest to different places, including Iowa and Illinois. They eventually settled in Omaha.

She was a loving wife and mother during those early years and went back to work part- time later in life. She worked as a clerk at JC Penney’s and as a secretary for rental/storage facility. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church since 1969. There, she joined Hope circle, sang in the sextet and choir, did volunteer office work, gave home communion to shut-ins and was a wedding planner. She lived her life devoted to God, family and friends.

Donald died unexpectedly September 1978. She married John Matthews in 1982 and enjoyed sharing his hobby of building and flying ultralight airplanes. He died April 1994 while in hospice care.

Other hobbies she enjoyed were playing bridge, taking care of her schnauzer dog, watching Nebraska football games and traveling abroad with her brother Mel. Trips included Great Britain, Ireland, Germany and a Mediterranean cruise. She loved and doted on grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharla Fitzgerald and Sandra (Brian) Nimmo; daughter-in-law, Wendy Ringler; three grandchildren: Shannon (Marshall) Comisar, Trevor (Crystal) Dinovo and Ellie Ringler; five great-grandchildren: Carter Gibson, Lincoln Comisar, Bryar Dinovo, Levi Comisar and Rhyler Dinovo; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sister, two husbands, a son, many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

FUNERAL SERVICE:  Saturday, March 1, 2025, 11:00AM with VISITATION beginning at 9:30AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 13271 Millard, Avenue, Omaha.

INTERMENT: Monday, March 3, 2025, 10:00AM at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, 2300 S. 78th St., Omaha.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the Alzheimer’s Association.

    Sharla and family, we were so sorry to hear of Phillis’s passing. Phillis and John were in our very first family fellowship cell when we joined St.Paul’s, many fun times. Our deepest sympathies ,,hugs Sharla, and God Bless.Linda and Marvin Larson

    My sympathy to Sharla, Sandra and family. I met Phyllis at Country House and she was a dear, sweet friend. I will always have special memories of Phyllis. May God bless you all and give you comfort during this time of loss.
