POUSTER, Edward E.

Edward E. Pouster Sep 17, 1927 – May 2, 2015 Born to immigrant parents and a first generation American, Edward E. Pouster came into this world on September 17, 1927. He had many odd jobs as a boy, but the one he admired most was when he got a job as a red cap at the Union Pacific Railroad. He found out people tipped him for taking their bags to the platform for boarding. He liked the money in his pocket. He graduated from South High School 1945. He then entered the Navy Reserves and enlisted on March 16, 1946. Most of his service was on the island of Guam, in the Marianna Islands in the South Pacific. He was an Electrician Communications Specialist, installing and repairing transmission lines to the fleet in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged on March 16, 1948, as an Electrician’s Mate Third Class, which would be equivalent to a sergeant in the Army. Soon after coming home, he decided to take dance lessons. It was then that he met Margaret Myers. She danced him off his feet as they were married on May 21, 1949. They would have been married 66 years this May. They decided to adopt a little girl in October, 1955. They named her Patricia Ann. On January 18, 1957 they had a son of their own, Edward Michael. Their family was complete. While being a Dad, Ed wore many hats: coach for both children, roller skate teacher, how to change a flat and your oil, how to throw a fast ball, how to drive and much, much more. He basically taught us how to be good Christians and good people. He ultimately went on to retire from the UPRR with 42 years of service. Ed eventually became the grandpa of five wonderful children and also three great-grandchildren. Oh, how he could tease these kids! Until the end, Ed had many names: husband, father, friend, grandpa and great-grandpa, although, he was best known as Papa. Preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Ann; brother, Joseph. Survived by wife, Margaret M.; son, Edward M. Pouster (Jamie); daughter, Patricia A. Austin (Dennis); grandchildren: Erin E. Kodjo (Amos), Eric T. Austin, David M. Austin, Emily Ann Davidson (Ryan), and Edward Spencer Pouster; great-grandchildren: Samuel, Faith and Jacque Kodjo. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 5th, 5pm to 7pm, with VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm, all at the West Center Chapel. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Wednesday, May 6th at 10:30am at St. Gerald Catholic Church, 9602 “Q” Sreet in Ralston. Interment, Calvary Cemetery.
