Pratap V. Pothuloori, M.D.

March 6, 1946 – October 19, 2022

Pratap Venkatswamy Pothuloori, M.D., 76, passed away at his home on October 19, 2022, surrounded by his family. Born on March 6, 1946 in Secunderabad, India, he was the third child of Venkatswamy and Sharada Bai Pothuloori. He attended All Saints High School and received his medical degree from Gandhi Medical College where he met his beloved wife Manmohan Kaur. They were married on July 5, 1974 and have two children, Antara, born in 1977 and Avin, born in 1981. Early in his career, he remained in India and worked as a respected primary care physician in India.

Pratap immigrated to the United States with his family in 1981. He earned a Master of Public Health at Tulane University and completed his Psychiatry training at the combined Creighton University and University of Nebraska Medical Center Psychiatry Residency Program. He moved to Lincoln, NE in 1993 and considered this his home. He practiced Psychiatry in Nebraska and Kentucky, predominantly in a joint practice alongside his wife. A dedicated, caring and altruistic physician, he made an indelible impact on the lives of many patients and children.

Pratap had a dynamic personality and radiated joy and love to all those he knew and met. His commitment to his career was only surpassed by his commitment to family. He was a devoted father to his children and a mentor and trusted confidante to his many nieces and nephews. Whether in humor, celebration, passion for Hindi film and music, or travel, Pratap unquestionably believed that life must be celebrated and imbued with laughter and merriment. He loved to celebrate life’s milestones and was a true master of many ceremonies.

Despite numerous surgeries and hospitalizations, he maintained a positive outlook driven by his willpower and love of family. Health was no obstacle in his role as a guiding, loving father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He remained inseparable from his wife and soulmate of 48 years.  His two grandchildren, Tejus and Talin were the apples of his eye and gave him endless pride. He was a constant support to his children as they navigated their own medical careers.

Pratap, You are a brave soul. You did not let adversites ever dampen your Sprit.
As a natural born Leader, you always led the pack.
Your persistence in maintaining a regular calendar of Zoom meetings is admirable.
i asked Manmohan to come to Kansas City to attend the Gurudwara .
Much as she longed for the Sat Sang , she said, she cannot leave Pratap..She attended to him with great tenderness and affection.
Pratap, you are an inspiration to the Class of ’64.
God broke the mold after He created you .
Feel you are smiling at all of us and telling other Angels about the many people who loved you.
Whenever we thnk of you, a smile will light us up and remind us of the love you shared unconditionally. . , We bet the angels are having fun, enjoying your Shahyari and jokes .
Our heartfelt condolence to Manmohan, Antara, her husband and children
    Love, Yadvendra and kuldeep
