Robert Kevin “Kevin” Throckmorton, 69, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away December 8, 2021, at Methodist Hospital with family by his side. Kevin was preceded in death by his loving parents and many beloved aunts and uncles.

Kevin was born December 14, 1951, to Richard Mayo and Aletha Jeanne ‘Jeanne’ (Huitt) Throckmorton in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the third of four children.  He grew up in various towns throughout Iowa until his family settled in Carroll, Iowa in his teens.  Kevin graduated from Carroll High School in 1970.  He married Roxanne Fryar and they raised their three children in O’Neill, Nebraska.  On October 13, 2001, Kevin married Laurie ‘Missy’ Barrow, expanding the family eventually to 8 children, 24 grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter.

Kevin attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska, and then transferred to Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa, earning his Associates Degree in 1973.  He spent his early years working in sales at Gambles and S & S Stores. Kevin then transitioned to outside sales working for Liqui-Ply Roofing, Diamond Vogel, and Michael Todd & Co each for many years. He then found his calling in the storage and rental industry, working for U-Haul as a center manager and AFM, and then for over a decade as the manager of 680 Maple Mini Storage. Kevin retired on December 12, 2018.  He had spent the last three years happily retired.

Kevin enjoyed spending time with family, especially as Granddad to his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.  Kevin and Missy celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary this year.  They spent their time with family and friends, traveling the US in their RV Camper, visiting quaint bed and breakfasts.  They were happy enjoying time camping locally, where family and friends could join in and they could have many quiet evenings together.

Kevin was a man of strong faith and convictions.  He was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and choir.  Kevin was a Master Mason, recently serving as Worshipful Master of Capitol Lodge #3 AF & AM, Omaha.  He was a member of Alpha Chapter #325 OES and the Masonic Camping group. Kevin was also very active with Tangier Shrine, belonging to the Chanters Unit and making regular trips to the Shrine Hospital to transport patients and their families.

Kevin was a strong family man.  Spending time with all his family together was one of his greatest joys. He was very proud of all his children and grandchildren, never hesitating to brag to anyone who would listen about someone’s latest accomplishments.

Kevin was a great man, a loving husband, a supportive dad, and a doting granddad.  He was a man who loved life, his family, and was loved immensely in return.  Kevin had a huge heart and will truly be missed by all those whose lives he touched.

Kevin is survived by his loving wife, Missy (Barrow) Throckmorton; his children Robyn and Greg Mason of Lincoln, Nebraska and children Piper and Jemma; Ryan and Carmen Throckmorton of Kearney, Nebraska and children Topher and Bailey and daughter Addy Jo, Wesley, Kole, and Matthew Dixson; Robert and Kelly Throckmorton of Bellevue, Nebraska and children Bree, Richard, Keenan, and Taeton; Tyler and Lindsay Lowery of Colorado Springs, Colorado and children Kaitlyn, Kristin, Scarlett, and Aviana; Heather and Andy Jacobsen of Bennington, Nebraska and children Avery Moyer, Zach, and Zoe; Wendy Bradley of Omaha, Nebraska; Aaron and Megan Lowery of Omaha, Nebraska and children William and Ellie; Matthew and Chellsey (Ratkovec) Lowery and children Breckin Ratkovec, Kaden, Savannah, Aurora, and Amelia; siblings: Terry and Judith Ann Throckmorton of McGaheysville, Virginia; Richard “Dick” Jr and Patricia Throckmorton of The Villages, Flordia; and Cindy and Jim Bruggeman of Templeton, Iowa; sisters and brothers in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Gathering of Family and Friends will be Saturday, December 18th from 11am to 1pm, followed by Celebration of Life at 1 pm, all at the West Center Chapel.  Burial in Panora, Iowa in the spring.  Memorials are suggested to Covenant Presbyterian Church, Capitol Masonic Lodge #3, and Tangier Shrine.

We were so sorry to hear of Kevin’s death. He leaves such a dear family. There are so many memories that Norman has of his cousins, Kevin and other Throckmorton siblings, when they were growing up. Kevin will be missed by so many in his extended family and friends. We will not be able to attend the celebration of life, but hope to attend the burial in Panora in the spring. Our deepest sympathies at this time.

OMG, I felt compelled to search Kevin! My condolences to the family, especially the twins, God Bless. Kevin helped me through very, very, very dark times during his U-haul NE days. (even let me reside upstairs!) May my heart will always beat love on his behalf. God bless and keep you, my mentor!
