Randall J. Turner

Randall J. Turner

August 13, 1946 – November 1, 2023

Randall J. Turner, son of Melvin DeLoss and Evelyn (Johnson) Turner, was born August 13, 1946, in Wahoo, Nebraska. He grew up in Yutan where he attended Yutan High School and graduated in 1964. Following graduation, Randy attended Norfolk Junior College on a football scholarship from 1965-1966. He then transferred to Peru State College and graduated in 1968 with his Bachelor of Science in Education. After graduating from college, Randy began teaching and coaching at Dawson-Verdon High School. He then accepted a position at Milligan High School where he continued to coach and teach. While at Milligan, he met and married Beverly Herdman on November 5, 1976, in Omaha, Nebraska. Randy and Bev were blessed with a daughter, Kathy, and they made their home in Yutan. Randy taught at Burke High School until he decided to transition out of the teaching profession. Years later and upon retirement, Randy returned to his true calling of teaching and worked as a substitute teacher in the Wahoo and Ashland School Districts. These were by far the most rewarding years of Randy’s teaching career.

Randy loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and skilled fisherman. No matter what season it was, Randy was spending his time up in a deer stand, out on his boat, or walking through fields. Randy and Bev’s shared love of fishing and the outdoors often took them and Kathy on trips to Canada. They also shared a passion for hunting dogs, specifically Small Münsterländers.

Although Randy loved watching the Huskers, he was truly happiest when he was watching his grandchildren, Kiley and Luke, play sports and attending all of their school events. He prided himself on attending every game and was always one of the first ones in the stands.

Randy passed away suddenly at Bryan East Hospital on November 1, 2023, at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bev; and many dogs. Randy is survived by his daughter, Kathy and her husband, Chad of Omaha; two grandchildren, Kiley and Luke Tremel; brother, Jeff and his wife, Debi Turner, and their three children.

A visitation will be held on Monday, November 6, 10:00 – 11:00 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yutan, Nebraska.  A service in honor of Randy’s memory will follow at 11:00.  Burial at Hollst-Lawn Cemetery with luncheon to follow at St. John’s.

Randy was a great guy. He was a substitute teacher at our school for years, and we always enjoyed his company.

Randy and Bev were life changing friends. They introduced me to Small Munsterlanders. I had the good fortune to hunt with Randy.. I used to talk to Bev regularly. I have been attempting to call Randy, I was shocked to hear of his passing. I am speechless, My condolences to his family..
