REED, Ivel

Ivel Reed Feb 20, 1945 – Dec 15, 2015 Ivel Reed, fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church, died on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 in Omaha, Nebraska. Born on February 20, 1945 and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Ivel Reed was educated by the Religious of the Sacred Heart and graduated from Barat College in Lake Forest, Illinois. Following graduation she taught Kindergarten in St. Louis, where she married John Reed on July 8, 1967. Ivel’s greatest joys in life were her husband, children, and grandchildren. Her family includes her husband, John; children and children-in-law: Jennifer (Reed) and Ken Reed-Bouley, Anna Lee (Reed) and David Welch, and John and Torey Reed; beloved grandchildren: Maya and Rosa Reed-Bouley, Ivy, Clara and David Welch, Kate, Emily and Annie Reed; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Lee and John Lally, Judy and Steve Medler; numerous nieces and nephews. Ivel was known as “Baba” to her grandchildren and their friends, whom she warmly embraced. John and Ivel made their home in St Louis, Missouri and Carmel, Indiana and then moved to Omaha in 1981. They were welcomed by the Omaha community, where Ivel served as President for Duchesne Academy Parents and Alumnae Board, Emergency Pregnancy Service Board, Stephen Center Sponsors Board and Bergan Mercy Auxiliary Board. She was a member of the Board of Hospice House and the Komen Nebraska Advisory Board. Ivel developed lifelong friendships through Saint Margaret Mary Circle Five and her endless generosity expressed through volunteer work. All who knew Ivel experienced the great joy she exuded. All services will be held at Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 6116 Dodge Street. The VISITATION will be Thursday, December 17th from 5pm to 7pm, with VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL on Friday, December 18th at 10am. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Duchesne Academy, CUES, and Boys Town.
