Richard A. Bolamperti, M.D.
July 1, 1933 – March 12, 2024
Dr. Richard “Dick” Bolamperti, age 90, of Omaha, Nebraska.
Passed away on March 12, 2024.
Richard was born in Omaha, NE, on July 1, 1933, to Richard and Palma (Cortese) Bolamperti, the eldest of five children. Richard grew up during the Depression in Omaha’s Little Italy with several of his extended family members. The family worked hard to live the American Dream with Richard becoming a radiologist, and his three brothers becoming dentists.
Richard attended Creighton Prep, Creighton University, and Creighton Medical School, where he graduated in 1958. He often attributed his success in life to his education, specifically his time at Creighton Prep.
Richard met Jeannette Stessman of Panama, Iowa at the Creighton Clinic, where she was studying nursing. Shortly after, the couple were married at Saint Philomena in Omaha on September 20, 1958.
Dick worked as an internist at Saint Joseph’s Hospital until he saved enough money for residency. The couple then moved to Philadelphia where he completed his radiology residency at Jefferson Medical College. After a short stint in Fresno, California, they yearned for home. The young family returned to Omaha where Richard would establish the Radiology Department at Lutheran Hospital. He would spend most of his career there, later moving into private practice.
Together the couple raised five children. The family enjoyed annual trips to a dude Ranch in Colorado, skiing in Vail, and summers with extended family at Hanson Lake and later at Woodcliff Lakes. He most enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren at home.
Richard enjoyed working in his garden, reading the Wall Street Journal, following the stock market, and completing the daily crossword puzzle. Richard and Jeannette spent their free time traveling around the world. Visiting China, biking through Europe and sailing trips with friends were some of their favorites.
Richard was a lover of art and antiques, specifically Asian art, and Persian rugs. A piece of his collection by Robert Henri was donated as part of the permanent collection at Joslyn Art Museum.
Richard did not slow down later in life. He began training for marathons at age 59 and ran his first at age 60! He would go on to run many more, including the Chicago Marathon. His running partners became lifelong friends.
Richard was generous, hardworking, intelligent, and devoutly Catholic. Through all of life’s blessings and tragedies, he remained ever grateful for his faith, family, and friends.
Richard will be remembered as humble in his generosity and tenacious in his convictions.
Richard is survived by his wife, Jeannette; children: Richard Bolamperti (Alisa), David Bolamperti (Mary), Libby Montemarano, (Anthony), James Bolamperti (Sandra); 12 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brothers, Dr. Ted and Dr. Terry Bolamperti; brother-in-law, Jess Wills; numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
