Richard “Dick” Allen Whorley

September 12, 1937 – October 8, 2018

Born on September 12, 1937 in Mason City, Iowa.  Death at home in Omaha on October 8, 2018.  Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rita; daughter, Rachelle and Mike Heser; son, Robert and Lisa Whorley; grandchildren: Adam, William and Hannah, Michael and fiancée Kari, Brett, and Laura; great-grandchild, Olivia; brothers, Jack and Pam Whorley and Tom and Janna Whorley; numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews and friends.  Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Zeola Whorley.

Married on October 26, 1963.  Dick and Rita were married in Omaha and soon moved to O’Neill, Nebraska where Dick was employed by Standard Oil as a regional salesman.  Daughter Rachelle was born in O’Neill.  The family moved to Lincoln where Rob was born.  Dick’s job with Standard Oil then took them to Kansas City.  In 1972, Dick and Rita had the opportunity to return to Omaha where they owned and operated the Greenwood Truck Plaza and Copper Plate restaurant in Greenwood, Nebraska until 1998 when retirement graced them with more time to spend with family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 12th from 5pm to 7pm at the West Center Chapel, followed by VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm.  MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Saturday, October 13th at 9:30am at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 11802 Pacific.  Interment, Calvary Cemetery.  Memorials will be directed by the family.

    Rachelle & Family, I am so very sorry for your loss. Dick was a wonderful man and will certainly be missed! I always enjoyed our conversations during his haircuts. Your family will remain in our prayers.

    We were so sorry to hear of Dick.’s passing. He was a first cousin of my father Ike Darrah, his mother was Elizabeth Whorley. We enjoyed seeing Dick at a Whorley Reunion in Emmetsburg some years ago. Rita and family you have our sincere sympathy and you have a wonderful family for support.
