Richard William “Dick” Wortman
February 19, 1937 – December 29, 2018
Richard William Wortman was born in West Point, NE. He graduated from Guardian Angels Catholic School and attended Norfolk Junior College. Richard moved to Omaha and became an employee of Union Pacific Railroad. In Omaha, he met and married Janice Lee Poyar. Jan and Richard raised four children together. After 30 years of service in various management positions in Accounting, Marketing & Sales, and Information Management, Richard retired from Union Pacific. While retired, he was able to focus on several of his passions: playing Bridge, travelling, and sports. Richard attained a Life Master in duplicate bridge, enjoyed more than 25 cruises with his wife Janice, and attended Kansas City Chiefs games. One of his proudest achievements was playing in a bridge tournament with Bill Gates and Warren Buffett.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence & Mathilda Wortman. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Janice; daughters: Cheryl Pope (Mark), Carla Wortman, and Lisa Marshall (James Phillips); son, John Wortman (Danielle); seven grandchildren and one great grandson; sisters, Suzanne Tingelhoff and Rita Perito; many other family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 12, 2019, from 12noon to 2pm, followed by FUNERAL SERVICE at 2pm, all at the West Center Chapel. Private Interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to Open Door Mission or Salvation Army.

My prayers are with you during this very hard time. He was a great father, uncle, and husband. He is now watching over you all as an angel. I’m sorry I can not he attendance living so far away. But a quote I believe in shall give you a bit of comfort….
