Richard F. Kelly

Born in Jamaca, IA. Preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Kelly: brother, Jack Kelly; and parents, Robert and Elizabeth Kelly (O’Malley).
Survived by long time partner, June Jenn of Omaha; cousin, Brian O’Malley and wife Katie of Millwaukee, WI; niece, Katie Kelly of San Jose, CA; nephew, Sean Kelly and family of Buena Vista, CO, Richard is also survived by numerous cousins from the O’Malley and McDermott families; and good friends.
Richard completed Radiology Technologist Program at the old St Joe hospital on 10th Street and shortly after was drafted into the Army and worked in MASH units during the Viet Nam War. He was awarded a Bronze Star for caring for service men’s wounds during enemy fire. He spent more than 30 years as Chief Technologist in Nuclear Medicine at the UNMC where he was involved in early efforts in processes used in Nuclear Medicine Departments throughout the country. Later, when computers were replacing film, he became a Microsoft Certified Network Administrator and was soon the Network Administrator for UNMC’s large and growing radiology department. Throughout his career he was known for his ethics, easy going manner, and willingness to help.
Memorial Service: Saturday, January 22, 2022, 12:00noon at the West Center Chapel, with visitation starting at 10:30AM. Interment: Holy Sepulchre Cemetery with Military Rites.

We were so sorry to hear about Dick. The Kelly family was close friends with the Tighe family in Jamaica, Iowa for many years. Jack was my best friend as kids. Dick was a really nice guy. I’m sure he will be greatly missed by those close to him.
The world is a lesser place. You will be missed.
