Richard Frederick “Dick” Norris was born on September 26, 1930 to Fredrick “Fred” and Theodosia “Doris”.  He, with sister Dorothy Jean, were raised in North Omaha.  His father, Fred worked for Union Pacific as a railroad engineer.  He passed away when Dick was 8 years old.  Doris worked for World Insurance until her retirement.

Dick was educated at Cathedral Grade School and Creighton Prep, received a bachelor’s degree from Creighton University, and law degree from Creighton Law School.  In 1953 he was stationed in the Army at Ft. Leavenworth as an Intelligence Research Officer for three years.  He worked for World Insurance and Mutual Protective Insurance up until 1980 when he went into private law practice which he continued for another 25 years.

Dick married Robbi Schmitz in 1959 and they raised five children:  Nancy Ann (1960) Mark Joseph (1961) Jeffrey Scott (1966) Gary Richard (1967-2003) and Keri Elizabeth (1971).  Dick was an accomplished pianist, and at times earned his way through school playing the piano; he passed the enjoyment of piano on to his children.  He played club hockey growing up and enjoyed teaching his kids to ice skate on mini ice-skating rinks he built in the backyard.  He and Robbi loved to golf, play bridge and throw fancy dinner parties on the weekends.

Dick was active in his parishes—first, Christ the King, then St. Robert Bellarmine as a founding member.  He was an active member and past president of Serra Club which promotes the archdiocesan seminarians.  He loved to vacation in the mountains, especially the Rocky Mountains and Estes Park Colorado where his Aunt Loretta lived.  He would take his family up for vacation every year, passing the love of the Rockies to his family.  Robbi and his son Gary are both buried just outside of Estes.  Dick was an avid Nebraska Football fan and had season tickets for years, passing that love to his children.  He loved Creighton basketball and Kansas City baseball.

Dick remarried in 2001 to JoAnn Anderson with whom he shared another 10 years of marriage until JoAnn passed away in 2011.  They enjoyed traveling, golfing, dancing, playing bridge together and spending time with both their families.

Dick has been blessed with grandchildren and many step grandchildren with whom he loved to spend time.

As his health declined, Dick moved to assisted living at Orchard Gardens in Valley, and most recently at Valhaven long term care in Valley.  There he enjoyed long car rides and listening to Frank Sinatra.

    Long time friend and attorney, I will miss him. Dick be one in Christ.
    Requiem aeternam dona eim, Domine.
    Et Lux perpetua luceat eim.
    In memoria aeterna erit justus;
    Ab auditione mala non timebit.
    Amen.
    Pie Jesu Domine, dona eim requiem sempiternam. Amen.
